A Walk With Friends - providing 121 environmental socialisation walks, regular dog walks both solo or with others, behavioural support and group socialisation walks. Our core services at 'A Walk With Friends' provide 121 environmental socialisation walks, regular dog walks either solo or with another dog, plus behavioural support. o.uk or call us on 07388 541407, for further information. They are at their most receptive to learning, as well as being at their most sensitive, in their early stage life. This period is typically from 3 weeks of age through to 20 weeks, therefore the earlier you can start to socialise your puppy and introduce them to new situations the better. Initially they learn from the parent dog/s and any litter mates, also through their interaction with humans and from their environment. To give your puppy the best start in life, it is essential that these experiences are of a positive nature. Once your puppy leaves the litter and he/she is fully vaccinated, along with short regular walks, puppy classes are an excellent way to continue training and developing social skills. Training is a life long commitment, an excellent relationship and enrichment exercise for you and your dog. At adolescent stage, all the hard work you have put in may go out the window and you find yourself going back to basics. We appreciate that many dog owners go out to work and due to busy lifestyles do not always have the opportunity to regularly socialise their dogs. Some find themselves in the routine of walking the same route, at the same time each day. Other handlers will head to the local park or field and simply let their dog off the lead to burn energy. This unwittingly limits their dog’s experience of the world. In addition to our core services, 'A Walk With Friends' operate group dog walks that are designed to be an enjoyable experience for all involved. We aim to help you socialise your dog in a positive and effective environment and to give you the confidence to handle your dog calmly and responsibly. Our walks are held monthly at various venues around Northamptonshire. They are all on lead and operate in an organised fashion. The group walks offer an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded people whilst familiarising your dog with new situations, people and other dogs. This allows you to observe your dog and how they communicate within our controlled, group environment. For the group walks, please follow our page for event updates and contact us to discuss suitability for your dog. We look forward to meeting you and your companions.

****UPDATE - FORECAST NOW SHOWS RAIN THROUGHOUT THE MORNING****

A reminder that we meet from 09:30 in the car park at Warth Park Country Park, ready for a 10:00 start.

The forecast says the rain is due to cease for 10:00, start again around 11:00 then stop for 12:00, so it could be a damp walk. If like me, you do not like getting wet, please wear suitable clothing.

There are still 3 places available, if anyone would like to join us. Please private message the page to reserve your place.

See you later.

I was over at Bugbrooke yesterday afternoon checking out a new group walk route for Saturday. Unfortunately I will have to abort that one this week as fields we cross have not yet been harvested. It would be sods law they will do them Saturday 🙈 My alternative venue has a road closure! So much for plan B.

I will add a walk later today for Warth Park, Raunds through to Stanwick Lakes.

Hope you can join us.

Photos are from Bugbrooke. On the list to do.

Thank you to everyone that joined the small group walk today. I hope you enjoyed the experience and the location.

The dogs sharing the socialisation opportunity today were:

Barney
Buddy
Charlie
Enya
Jazz
Jemma
Jude
Libby
Louie
Mollie
Otto
Rodney
Sydney

From small to giant and all getting along just fine.

Part way round we came across a ploughing contest. It is lovely to see old traditions being kept alive. We stood and watched for a few minutes before heading off again.

The next group walk will be Saturday 24th August. I have yet to decide the venue but will add an event as soon as I have. Please keep following the page for updates. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing you again soon.

Stubby.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/4Lu4EMw9UvVoZZKu/

In 1918, "Sergeant Stubby" became a legendary figure and is considered the most decorated dog in U.S. military history. This brave canine spent over 18 months on patrol during World War One, participating in 17 battles and saving countless lives during a night-time gas attack. Stubby, a stray Boston Terrier mix, was adopted by Private J. Robert Conroy and smuggled aboard a ship bound for France. His keen sense of smell and hearing allowed him to warn his unit of incoming gas attacks and artillery shells, as well as locate wounded soldiers on the battlefield. Stubby's bravery and loyalty earned him numerous medals and commendations, including a promotion to sergeant, making him the only dog to be given a rank through combat. After the war, Stubby continued to serve as a symbol of heroism and loyalty until his passing in 1926. His legacy lives on as a testament to the incredible bond between soldiers and their canine companions.

I haven't abandoned group social walks, I am watching the forecast for slightly cooler weather. Currently, Sunday 4th August looks a possibility, a morning walk that I may start 30 minutes earlier than usual to avoid heat build up. Please keep following the page and when an event is published, private message me to reserve your place.

Please note, going forward I will be asking for the £10 payment per dog, at the time of booking. This will hopefully avoid last minute cancellations that do not allow time to fill the unused place. Thank you in advance for your anticipated understanding.

Happy walking anniversary Bruno. A year today that we have been sharing walks 🥰

23/07/2024

It was Hunter's 2nd birthday yesterday. I don't know what he was dreaming the night before, but he woke up identifying as Hugh Hefner.

His day started with a special breakfast. Most of his family were home so he was showered with attention. When I turned up to take him out he took great delight in telling me it was his birthday and how he is a "big boy" now. He loaded into the car, eagerly awaiting the day ahead. Hunter was overjoyed when the next stop was to pick Chip up.

"It's Chip Walking Servant. You have arranged a date with my favourite girl".

"Not a date exactly Hunter, you are simply sharing the walk"

Hunter was hopeful for the rest of his dream to pan out.

"A pool party! My very own pool party. My dream is coming true! Oh my, and Chippy kissed me 😊 This is the best day ever. She must want my puppies" exclaimed Hunter.

"Give it a rest Hunter, I have told you before, I am not that kind of girl" said Chip.

"Captain Pinky will not disappoint" said Hunter.

"Anyone that calls their man bits 'Captain Pinky' is not man enough for me!" Chip declared.

"But it's my birthday and I'm a big boy now" Hunter replied.

"Hunter, no dog loses their virginity on my watch" I made that quiet clear.

We continued the walk with intermittent sulking and flirting from Hunter.

"But in my dream I had a special party. A party with pretty girls" whispered Hunter.

"You will have a party Hunter, a party at home."

"Really Walking Servant? Do you promise?"

"I promise Hunter".

The party......

Hunter is still a virgin. No Playgirls were present and he was made to wear a silly hat.

Happy Birthday Hunter. We love you 🥰

Back to work today after spending some time up in the wilderness of the Scottish Highlands. Quality time with my dogs.

It is good to step away from mainstream society every now and then. It helps recharge the batteries.

We have now had to close our doors to any more dogs :( We have been struggling for months to find kennel spaces for dogs to come in but at least we have had dogs being rehomed so we have managed to help some doggies although very slowly. However we are now full with so many of our dogs getting little interest or none at all or an odd application that just hasn't been suitable. We have had some dogs returned and have 30 plus dogs on our waiting list to come in so we are now stuck :( Some dogs have been here for what seems like an eternity and it is just heartbreaking to see them day in and day out.
So please keep sharing our pups, it just needs that 1 application to change their lives and give them a chance 🤩
