RAISING AWARENESS ~ Like the rest of the UK, we were shocked by recent reports of unlicensed professionals who offer such services as dog sitting, walking and grooming, failing to meet the needs of dogs in their care and even, in some circumstances, hurting them.
Thankfully, such reports are few and far between, and the vast majority of individuals offering pet services are animal lovers just like us! But sadly, where there is money to be made, there are those who will exploit the love we have for our dogs, so it can certainly feel like a minefield for dog owners. To take some worry out of the process, here’s some extra precautions we’ll be taking...
→ Look for reviews and recommendations
→ A professional will have robust procedures in place in case of emergency so don’t be afraid to ask
→ Ask to meet them in person first - dogs are a great judge of character after all!
→ Don’t be afraid to ask about the legal side of things, including contracts and insurance
→ Ask about their training and experience with dogs
→ Ensure they have the right facilities especially if they’re travelling with your pup
Many organisations are calling for better regulation of the industry, which would certainly offer dog owners greater peace of mind. But until then, it’s up to us dog owners to be extra vigilant about who we trust with our most treasured companions - for more resources or to ask us a question, reach out to our aftercare team by dropping us a DM 🐾
