Dental Procedures 🦷

It is so important to keep our pet’s teeth nice and clean for not only their oral health but also their general health!

Our Nurse, Vicky, brought her gorgeous Ethel for her Dental cleaning. Ethel also had full mouth x-rays to check the condition of her teeth from under the gum line. She recovered very well and has amazing Pearlie whites! 🌟

BBQ Safety for our Pets 🍗

Hopefully BBQ season is firmly upon us or on its way! Here are some things to consider to keep our pets safe.

Hot Hot Hot 🔥- Obviously BBQs are very hot as well as any utensils you may be using. We would recommend keeping your pets securely away from a hot BBQ to reduce any risk of burns. Also check the temperature of any food you may be giving them from the BBQ, our pets are opportunistic and may eat anything that is dropped.

Food Content 🍗- Our pets should be avoiding any fatty or salty foods as this can cause a very upset tummy! Any food you may give, should be unseasoned and plain, but ideally you should just stick to your pets normal food. Double check any seasonings too, as Onion and Garlic is poisonous to our pets.

Leftovers 🍽️- I am sure all the food was delicious and all eaten up, however there may be corn cobs, bones, foil and skewers that can still cause harm to your pets. If any of these are eaten, they may cause a blockage needing surgical removal. Dispose of these out of reach from our pets as soon as you can. Any signs of constant vomiting and lethargy, please get in touch!

We do understand you may want your pet to be able to join in on the fun! The safest foods to give them would be plain chicken or white fish with no seasonings and cooled to a safe temperature.

Summer Safety for our Pets ☀️

Hydrate💧- Allow constant access to water in plenty of different locations. Try to keep this cool! Provide water even if you do go to the beach, as sea water may make them sick.

Sunburn 🧴- Pale furred pets are prone to sunburn, especially on their Noses, Ears and sparser areas. You can buy pet-safe sun cream to apply or keep them completely out of the sun.

Exercise 🏃‍♀️- No dog died from missing a walk, but they can if taken outside. Restrict walks to the very early morning or late night. Do not ever leave them in a car, no matter if the window is open. If you are travelling with your pet, be sure to keep the car cool- be careful if they are in the boot.

Heat and Heatstroke 🥵- Over heating can be very detrimental to our pets health. They should be kept in cool areas with access to enrichment. Any signs of excessive panting, collapsing, drooling and increased breathing effort- if ANY of these occur, must contact us as soon as possible!

Top tips ⭐️:
- Provide cool treats and games! Freeze their favourite foods or provide a paddling pool.
- Brush them daily or get them groomed to reduce hair keeping them warm.
- Cooling devices can help provide a cool area. Water mist, Mats or paddling pools.

Meet the Team Monday- Vicky ⭐️

Vicky qualified as an RVN in August 2006 and quickly moved into referral nursing where she developed a keen interest in medicine, along with emergency and critical care (ECC). With 17 years of experience at the same hospital, she has held various positions and even spent a year as a lecturer, focusing on ECC for student nurses. Vicky enhanced her skill set by earning her Award in Education and Training, further applying her knowledge as a tutor for the Vets Now Certificate in ECC, a qualification she earned with distinction in 2019. Currently, she is pursuing a Graduates Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Nursing through the Royal Vet College.
Beyond her professional life, Vicky is a dedicated mother to three sons, and also to Ethel, an English Bull Terrier. An outdoor enthusiast, she enjoys exploring with Ethel and has recently embarked on learning to play the violin, fulfilling a lifelong ambition to master a musical instrument.

We love having her on the team ❤️

Dreaded Grass Seed Season 💫

Unfortunately the summer does bring its problems! ☀️ Grass seeds can easily burrow into our Pet’s Toes, Ears, Skin and Eyes!

It is best to check these areas after walks and remove any seeds you see! 🐕

This seed was removed from a dog’s ear earlier this year and signified the first of 2024 ⭐️

Look out for any constant head shaking or inflamed toes, please do get in touch if any of these signs occur! 📞 📧

Our very own amazing Enid ran a leg of the Climate relay on Friday. The climate relay is an initiative aiming to raise awareness and prompt action against climate change, by engaging communities in a symbolic and practical relay race starting at Ben Nevis, Scotland and finishing at Big Ben, London. Participants run, walk or cycle while passing a baton signifying the shared responsibility and the collective action required to make those necessary changes. The climate relay has done an excellent job of creating public awareness and engaging people of all ages, Well done to everyone involved, what an amazing achievement ❤️.
