Yesterday this little cutie visited us. Her name is reminding me of the scariest singer ever but that is luckily enough the only similarity.
Noodle is so very happy that the snow is finally melted far enough for her to go and explore the garden even though the going is still tough. Enjoy the last bit of winterwonderland everyone and if you have some nice pictures or videos of your pet in the snow, you can share them here.
My son ended up squeezing himself through the back door and walking a trench for the dog so she can reach to the pine tree , where the snow is much less deep.
Enjoy the snow everyone but please be safe and ofcourse, don’t forget to let your pets in.
A few weeks ago our beloved cat went missing. She suddenly didn’t come home one night. At first I thought she was being naughty an hiding somewhere in the house and not willing to come when I called her but when she still wasn’t there in the morning l knew something was seriously wrong. I walked all around the neighbourhood together with her best friend, our dog Noodle, and called her name but nothing, I reported her missing at the microchip company, I phoned all other vets around, I waited for a phonecall ( hoping she would have been found alive) I checked all around the house and garden several times and I put up posters in the area but nothing. No sign of her. Around 4 in the afternoon we checked our garden and finally there she was, staggering around. I picked her up and took her to the practice, assuming she had had an accident but it soon became clear that it was actually her heart that was the problem, it was not beating in a normal rhythm and was basically failing. I have been very very lucky that she did manage to get home and that for now, with the help of cardiologist Phil and imaging specialist Will, she is stable and enjoying her life again. However she has been fitted with a tracking device so I can find her if she doesn’t answer my calls. Please all look into getting one for your cat and possibly even dog. Our cat went from absolutely fine to suddenly near dead and I have been just very very lucky that she did manage to reach home.
There are 3 types of trackers, Bluetooth, radio and gps. Look into it what is most suitable for your situation and your cat. The microchip trackers are for now just science fiction. For now someone needs to find your cat first to be able to get them back to you ( if your contact details are correct and updated at microchip company , that is). With a tracking collar you can actively locate your cat when they haven’t, managed, to come home.
The road to te top is hard but the view is worth it and good company makes the road easier. All the best wishes for the holidays. From all the staff at Broomhill vets
Another one. Cats Christmas entertainment.
The gut movement of a rat louse
Maybe not such a Nice rabbit and rodent fact but rabbits and rodents can have lice, fleas and mites too. Lice and mites are species specific and should not bother humans but fleas can jump over to humans. And that is how the plague spread , by rat fleas. Luckily enough we don’t tend to see often fleas in rabbits and rodents and if we see them, they are often cat fleas. Rabbit fleas are amazingly big compared to cat fleas and can mainly be seen on wild rabbits
This is a guineapig louse. Look at the movement of the eye and the flow through the head and the gut motion!
Yesterday treated a hedgehog that was injured and had top and bottom jaw broken. He was unable to eat or drink and was not able to curl up in a ball. We gave him some anaesthetic gas and put a wire in each jaw and see how he is enjoying his dinner now. He will go to the South Yorkshire animal rescue on Monday for further treatment and possibly release.
Unfortunately this is the last wildlife rescue in sheffield and they desperately need your support. They need funds, volunteers and fundraisers. Please help them if you can.
We will be holding our annual charity month in July again, to raise money for this rescue. There will be a raffle, a fun fundraising day and a dog walk. You are all welcome to join us. Dates and more up to date info will be posted nearer to the time.
And he loves to play in the snow
