Craven farm vets are looking for an enthusiastic, cheerful colleague to work in our office team.

The role involves the administration of TB testing and health plans, assisting with the running of the dispensary and dealing with farm customers on the phone and face to face.

The job is a permanent role, four days a week and is based in our office at Skipton Auction Mart.
Good IT and customer service skills are required along with the ability to be organised and flexible.

Salary is from £12 per hour depending on experience.

Tom had an interesting call out last night to assist the rescue of a calf down a pothole. Tom sedated the calf allowing it to be lifted to safety, thankfully the calf was uninjured and has now been reunited with her mum

We are hosting another on farm Dairy meeting, this time with a focus on Dry Cows.
The meeting will be at Rylestone on Wednesday 22nd February starting at 10am and finishing with a pie and pea lunch.
There will be discussions on Nutrition, The Vital 90 days of transition and the use of Kexxtone.

FUNDING AVAILABLE

Back in September Tom carried out the very first Animal Health and Welfare Pathway Visit in the country as part of a Pilot.

The scheme is now open to everyone to pay towards an annual Flock/Herd Health plan visit and either BVD testing for cattle, or worm resistance testing for sheep.

DAIRY FARMERS - Next Thursday is our on farm lameness meeting, there will be demonstrations and discussion of foot trimming, mobility scoring and the most up to date lameness research.

A hot lunch will be provided.

Craven Farm Vets are looking for a cheerful, confident farm vet with experience to join our proudly independent business.

We are a small, friendly, health focussed, progressive team of six vets striving to provide the best possible service while enjoying our work. The practice is dairy based with significant beef and sheep work including an advanced sheep breeding enterprise. We have an excellent support team and great location on Skipton’s auction mart site. Skipton is in the low-risk TB area, and we have a vet tech/ATT who helps with the testing load. The town is in the Craven district of the southern Yorkshire Dales which provide a beautiful backdrop to our work and the Lake District is in easy reach if you like even bigger hills.

We are looking to replace our current vet who is following his dream and going back to the family dairy farm. We would like an all-rounder and will encourage any interests with fully supported CPD. The rota is equally shared, one in six and not too busy out of hours for most of the year. You will get a generous salary package including a vehicle, pension, and private health insurance.

There is still a high risk of flystrike, now it has come wetter and fly treatments applied earlier in the season wear off we are hearing of more and more cases, please remember to remain vigilant to the signs of flystrike

The Blowfly Alert in conjunction with Elanco predicts the emergence of blowflies based on Met Office Data. This can help to predict risk of clinical cases and help treatment timings.
