🌡️ HEAT ALERT🌡️ BE PREPARED 🌡️

A Heat Alert has been issued for Friday with temperatures in Southern and Central England expected to hit up to 36C

☀️ Tips for keeping pets cool in hot weather ☀️

Never leave animals in cars, conservatories, outbuildings or caravans on a warm day, even if it's just for a short while. When it's 22°C outside, temperatures can quickly rise to 47°C (117°F) in these environments, which can be deadly.

Do not walk your dog during the heat of the day. Only take for short walks in the early morning and the evening when it is cooler.

- Use a pet-safe suncream on exposed parts of their skin
-Making sure they have shade
-Giving them constant access to fresh water, put an extra bowl out on hot days
-Putting ice cubes in their water bowl
-Giving them damp towels to lie on
-Provide a cooling mat
-Close curtains or blinds on windows during the day to make it cooler indoors
-Brush their coat regularly
-Check sheds, conservatories and garages before closing them as cats may have gone in for the cool shade
- check pets regularly for signs of flystrike
- make sure hutches are not in direct sunlight, ceramic tiles can be placed in the hutch as they are cool and can be put in the fridge beforehand to cool further

🐾 Signs of burned pads🐾
Try the 5-second test - if it's too hot for your hands, it's too hot for paws!
You can also look out for:
Limping or refusing to walk
Licking or chewing at the feet
Pads darker in colour
Missing part of pad
Blisters or redness

‼️Signs of heatstroke‼️
Heavy panting and difficulty breathing
Excessively drooling
The dog appears lethargic, drowsy or uncoordinated
Collapsed or vomiting
