RIP Duane Eddy - remarkable Guitarist who passed away this week just a few days after his 86th birthday.

Never heard of him? Well in 1994 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Eddy brought a new and different kind of twangy rock and roll sound to the guitar, making him a huge hit in the 60s, shifting 12 million records by 1967.Back then he was bigger than Elvis in the UK!

Among those who have acknowledged Eddy's influence are George Harrison,Dave Davies, Hank Marvin, the Ventures,John Entwistle,Bruce Springsteen, John Fogerty, Adrian Belew, Bill Nelson, Mark Knopfler, and Ben Vaughn.

Our Story

There are many benefits to self and to society, and so we set out to run an old fashioned music shop. We advise and sell on all the popular instrument types, and do our best to get people playing - young and old.

Of course, music isn't all studying and exams, so we carry a wide stock of music across classical and more pop titles, and a large range of musical gifts for you and your musical friends.

Founded in Crewe the founders - themselves well known local musicians - struck up relationships with schools and music teachers to ensure A Major carries all the titles recommended by teachers. A Major moved to Newcastle-under-Lyme, situated in Bridge St., and remained there until 2017 when the opportunity came to move to Trentham Shopping Village. Trentham Gardens and the Shopping Village are a well known and heavily marketed target destination, which brought the opportunity for growth, and we have expanded our range of titles, as well as our instrument ranges and gifts. A Major is now one of the largest suppliers of Ukuleles in the three counties, and because of the popularity of Trentham Gardens is able to persist where so many music shops have struggled.

Trentham Gardens offers free parking right next to it’s 78 retail outlets, and gives our customers time to browse our growing range of books in comfort and at leisure.
