Lurcher SOS Lurcher & Sighthound Rescue

Lurcher SOS Lurcher & Sighthound Rescue Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and home abused, abandoned and neglected Lurchers, Greyhounds We are happy to home thought England, Wales and Scotland.

We are a small non-destruct rescue charity founded in March 2010. Our HQ is in Surrey and our dogs are in foster homes throughout the Home Counties and beyond. All our dogs are placed in warm and loving foster homes where they are carefully assessed and, if needed, rehabilitated. By placing our dogs in foster homes, we can get a much better idea of their temperament and we can establish if they ge

t along with other dogs as well as give them some basic training – something that a lot of them have never had before. All Lurcher SOS rescue dogs are neutered where possible and given full veterinary treatment, microchipped and vaccinated wormed and deflead before going to their new homes. We are a non-profit organization and receive no funding. We rely solely on donations from the public and are always in need of fundraising support to cover the cost of the care of our dogs. All funds go directly to caring for hounds as we have no paid staff - we are all volunteers who give our time and care willingly for free. We are actively seeking new foster parents and permanent homes for our rescue dogs. (A homecheck will be required.) PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT HOME TO HUNTING/WORKING HOMES; PET HOMES ONLY.

🐾 Reggie Update! 🐾

Hey everyone! We wanted to share an update on Reggie, especially since he’s had some big changes recently. After his foster sibling, Essie, was adopted a couple of weeks ago, Reggie has been adjusting to life as an only dog. Despite this transition, he is making wonderful progress in his foster home! He is such a loving, cuddly boy who loves nothing more than being the centre of your world 🌍

Reggie has been such a good boy lately with hardly any barking at night! The only time he made a peep was around 4:00 am the other day, but it was just to let his foster parents know he needed to go out. This morning, he didn’t wake them until 5:25 am—what a champ! No messes in the house, which means he’s learning to let them know when he needs to go out. His foster parents are aiming for a 5:45 am wake-up to coincide with his foster dad’s early start.

Reggie’s manners have also improved significantly! The counter surfing is a thing of the past (turns out cereal boxes aren’t his thing). He’s learning to wait patiently for his food instead of jumping or grabbing. He’s showing more confidence too—venturing into the garden all by himself.

His foster parents are also working on his separation anxiety, which they know takes time. They've made some progress with creative training. Yesterday, they practiced with a baby gate and a frozen bone, and Reggie managed to stay calm and relaxed while his foster mum moved around. Small steps, but his foster parents are thrilled with the progress!

Reggie still feels uneasy around children and parks, but his foster parents are gently working on building his confidence in these areas.

He’s settled in nicely as an only dog, but they feel he might thrive even more with a doggy companion.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement as Reggie continues his journey. Stay tuned for more updates on his progress!

We have a lovely update from recently rehomed Noodle:

“Hi friends, Noodle here! I’ve had an amazing weekend, I’ve been doing some off-lead exploring, playing in a secure dog wood, looooads of walkies, and the best thing ever: a Doggie Roast Dinner!! 🍽️

Mum was in my bad books for dressing me as a giant banana 🍌 , but apparently these things are necessary for this rainy Scottish weather! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿”

We love hearing from our happily homes hounds! 😍❤️

Say hello to new arrival Molly everyone, isn't she tiny! Poor Molly has had an awful start to life, we believe she was used as bait in dog fighting, so she is currently recovering from a few wounds 😠 However, her new life starts now! ❤ She is currently in foster under assessment, so no applications for her just yet - just admiration! 🥰

Reggie came to us from very difficult circumstances where his life was at risk. Reggie is now settling into his foster home in Surrey and we are told that he is a lovely friendly boy who wants to be around humans at all times! Reggie is great on the lead and loves running around in the paddock exploring and sniffing. He is neutered and vaccinated, and ready to find his forever home.

Look at sweet Sara everyone. What a cutie. Sara recently came to Lurcher SOS from the pound and is currently settling into her foster home well! Her foster Mommy says…..

She missed Pipsi (her foster sister) today who was being neutered today.

She is still quite vocal when she wants something but does quieten down pretty quickly. I think she does form attachments quite readily. She does love company and is such a happy dog. I don't know how she'd manage on her own. To be fair she hasn't been left alone here. There's always another dog around.

There isn't a bad bone in her very loving brown body. I haven't walked her out alone. I will try in the next couple of weeks to see how she goes without other pups.I don't think it will be an issue. She does learn quickly.

I get the occasional puddle in the morning but not regularly..

Sara is getting neutered soon. She is in foster in Wiltshire.

Lurchersos.org.uk to apply but hurry- she will be very popular!!

Summit is a foot folks! Yes, Summit is available. He is a sociable and friendly boy who loves being around people and other dogs. His main joys are running around the garden with the other dogs in his foster home, and eating! (he needs a close eye on him if there's food around as he can be a sneaky thief!). He has adapted well to living in a house, is very curious and always wants to know what's going on. He's even been perfectly behaved in a pub beer garden! What a good boy!

Summit is a large boy - 29” TTS, and we think he is around 6 years old.

He is a typical sighthound in that he has a strong interest in cats and squirrels, so no small furries in Summit's forever home please.

Born: 01/03/2018
Health: Good, although she is deaf
Character: Calm and sweet
Coat: Cream and Light Tan
Height: 64 cm.

Candela has been in foster for some time now and is discovering what home life is about. She adores being with her foster mum. She is a bit of a home bod and will often help her foster mum with cooking and taste testing/quality control.

Candela is such a loving and doting girl and makes a wonderful companion. She can struggle with the outside world and can be a frustrated greeter. She desperately needs a rural home where she can roam the countryside with her mum or dad, without too many stressors.

This girl has had a very cruel start to life and yet has so much love to give to her people. Candy would like to be homed with another sighthound companion or two!

Candy is deaf but manages very well without hearing. It doesn't affect her at all!
So are you looking for a beautiful Galga?
Do you have a rural home or near and easy access to quiet walks?
Do you have a sofa or bed she can snuggle up with you on?
Do you have another hound for Candy to play with?
If you have ticked all of these, then please get in touch with Candela, she would so love to hear from you.
Candela is in foster in Cornwall.

A message from LSOS Founder, Laurie:

“I’m not usually lost for words, but there really are not enough words to describe how grateful I am to single person who donated to and shared our recent fundraiser ❤️ Thanks to you all, we raised over £5200!!!! 😮 It’s never an easy thing to share with people when the rescue is struggling, but I am truly humbled that our supporters would take time out of their day, and money out of their pockets, to keep our little rescue going! From everyone on the LSOS team and all of the dogs, a huge thank you and slobbery kisses 🐾”

His main joys are running around the garden with the other dogs in his foster home, and eating! (he needs a close eye on him if there's food around as he can be a sneaky thief!). He has adapted well to living in a house, although he still finds himself worried by traffic noise or animals on the TV. He is very curious and always wants to know what's going on.

Summit is a large boy - 29” TTS, and we think he is around 6 years old.

Summit needs a home where his owners will give him the time and patience to show him the world isn't so scary when you're in a loving home, and, of course, to dish out plenty of love to that gorgeous face. His ideal home has another confident and playful sighthound to keep him company and show him the ropes.

He is a typical sighthound in that he has a strong interest in cats and squirrels, so no small furries in Summit's forever home please.

It’s never easy to share posts like this, but it’s the reality for small rescues like ours. 💔

Right now, LurcherSOS is facing a financial crisis. With a shortage of foster homes, we’ve had to place several dogs in emergency boarding, and the costs are quickly adding up. We’re doing everything we can to keep these dogs safe and healthy, but we need your help.

If you can spare anything to support our cause—no matter how small—it would make a world of difference. Your generosity will go directly toward the care of these dogs who deserve a second chance.

Please donate if you can, and share this post to help spread the word. Together, we can continue to do the work we love—saving these beautiful souls. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 🙏 ❤

Essie’s true chocolatey brown colouring comes to life when she basks in the sun 😍 Essie is very much enjoying settling into her new foster home with LSOS boy Reggie; they even visited the garden centre this week and we’re told they were excellently behaved!

We've got some news to share with you from Noodle:

"Hello friends, Guess what? I’VE EMIGRATED! To a place called Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. Och eye, I’VE BEEN ADOPTED. My Mum and Dad travelled for ages to meet me yesterday and we all fell in love🥰. We travelled to my new home today, it took lots of hours. I was a very good boy because I had a super luxury travelling compartment. We did stops for pees and walks and we bought a roast chicken. Not just any roast chicken; it was an M&S, special for Noodle roast chicken 😋. I’m in my new home now and I love it. Don’t worry friends, my mum is going to post updates about me and my new life. I was a bit sad when I said goodbye to Mabel and my foster family, I remembered my manners and said thank you for looking after me. Maybe they will visit me in Scotland one day. 🤔
That’s all for now, I have lots of exploring to do in my new home.
Thanks for being my friends/fans 😘. Wuff from Noodle McDoodle. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Xx"

Can't have a dog yourself just now or just want to help us? Have you considered sponsoring a dog for as little as £5 a month?

Each dog has individual requirements including socialisation, overcoming trauma and fears, veterinary care and special diets as well as the normal doggy needs of food, bedding, toys and treats. By sponsoring one (or more) of our hounds, you will help us to make sure that these dogs receive everything that they require for a much deserved happy life.

For example, meet Faun. Faun came to us after her owner died, and has been in foster ever since. Poor Faun is 13 years old and due to tumours on her leg, she is looking at a potential amputation. Sponsoring Faun would support her ongoing medical care, and ensure she lives out the rest of her life in comfort and without pain.

Head over to https://www.lurchersos.org.uk/sponsor-a-sighthoundto sponsor Faun or one of our other dogs on our sponsorship scheme.

2024 is proving a very difficult year for rescues all over, so we need your help. We would love to welcome new fosterers, home checkers, transporters and fundraisers into the LSOS family, especially in the East Anglia area as we regroup in our new HQ!
Could you spare some time to help our dogs find their forever homes? You would be provided with support and back up every step of the way.

Please share this post, and all our social posts, far and wide to spread awareness of our need for support. And even better, if you can support us in a more direct way by getting involved with any of those roles above, please pop us a message!

Thank you again to all of our page followers, post sharers, supporters, donors, home checkers, fosterers, adopters, fundraisers, and admin team, we couldn't continue our work without you all

Head over to our main page if you think you can help at Lurchersos.org.uk.
