We currently have 4 girls up for rehoming - they are around 6 months old and little cuties! The roan has some lung scarring so can sometimes sound chesty but she's been checked over by our vet and given the all clear to be homed.

These were originally from a breeder (Broadwaters) but unfortunately they don't have the room to take them in at the moment due to litters so I am rehoming with their permission. Can be split into pairs but the previous owner would like them to be kept as a cohesive group if possible.

If interested in giving these girls their final and furever home, please get in touch. πŸ’œ

🚩🚩🚩 WARNING POST 🚩🚩🚩

Tonight it was brought to our attention that someone who was homed girls from our rescue has been breeding from them without our permission or knowledge.

Anna Adamus was given 3 does last year as re-homes from the feeder breeder rescue that had gotten out of hand. Not only has she bred from these rescue girls once, but TWICE this year alone.

We will NEVER endorse breeding from the rats we re-home. Their health and genetic backgrounds can never be guaranteed (and as those of you who have filled in an application form can attest, it's very clear we cannot guarantee health)

Rescue rats can come with a plethora of health issues, and I know from feedback from other pet homes that this litter has developed eye issues.

If anyone is offered a rat from this lady, please know that we DO NOT endorse these animals in any way, shape or form and we will NEVER home out animals for deliberate breeding purposes. It is unethical, unkind, and completely against the ethos of the rescue.

To other rescues, breeders and people who may be considering homing to this lady - please reconsider and let this be a warning to you all. πŸ’œ

DON'T DUMP YOUR PETS

I'm sorry but this is going to be a huge rant, because I've seen so many dumpings lately of domestic rats.

THEY ARE NOT THEIR WILD COUNTERPARTS.

Being outside is extremely dangerous for domestic rats, and exposes them to all sorts of pathogens and predation. It's a death sentence for them if they aren't found, captured and treated.

We were brought a dumped rat tonight by a lovely lady when he had been spotted and caught at a local hospital. He's underweight, has several abscesses and showing visible signs of pain. He will require a lot of care and medical treatment if he is to pull through. We will be doing our very best for him, and hopefully he will make it. We don't know if he was dumped alone or as a group but at some point he was someone's beloved pet as he's fine with handling and human presence.

He will now be in quarantine for a month with a long course of antibiotics and several other meds to give him the best chance he has. If the owner had brought them to me, I would have taken them in and prevented this animal suffering how he is.

The lovely people who found him are now on the lookout for any more in the area.

If anyone has any information on his owner, or would like to donate towards his recovery, please message me.

I pray for the day I don't have to see animals in this condition.

We currently have 3 groups of ratties looking for their furever homes - please be aware they require experienced homes and not suitable for beginners, one or two may have to be a rats rat rather than a human companion. Please do not ask us to split them as they are bonded groups!

2 x intact male bucks, around 15 months old. (Agouti hooded rex and Roan Rex) - Custard and Crumble. These boys have been with us a while and still waiting to be chosen, Custard (the roan) is confident and doesn't mind being handled, whereas his brother Crumble is very scared of everything but can be held and just needs some more confidence building.

2 X intact male bucks, 12 weeks old. Scratch and Sniff (Black hooded and PEW) were born at the rescue from a heavily pregnant doe from the recent feeder breeder intake, both are very skittish and need someone with the time and patience to work with them and bring them around, they will come up to the bars to say hello or take treats but are uncertain about humans

4 x intact female does, one is around a year old, the others around 6-7 months. (Himilayan, Blue Point, PEW and topaz hooded) vary in confidence, the Himi and blue point can be handled, Himi will let you know with a nip if she's not impressed with you. Will take treats happily and allow strokes, but need work with overall handling

If anyone is interested in offering any of these Rattos a loving home please fill in our application form and put which group you'd be interested in

Form can be found at https://forms.gle/KQ6k9uFUEpFxQSYFA

Standard rehoming fee of Β£15 per rat applies

Could you love a Rescue Rattie this Valentine's Day?

Everyone deserves a little love on Valentine's day, please show your love to one of our resident ratties by helping towards the costs of their every day care. We currently have 110 rats with us, some of which will never find their furever homes πŸ₯Ί

We've been seeing an increase in rats coming to us for surrender and it's putting an extra strain on our resources - can you find it in your heart to help?

Spread a little love to those in need πŸ’œ

EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT PART TWO!

To complete my foundation bucks are these demon boys from Jon and AJ Black-Savage at Rattie Asylum Stud - 1 black and 1 Choc who we have lovingly called (based on the absolute lunatic girls in our pet group from this lovely couple who I'm proud to call friends)

πŸ₯œ Rattie Asylum Nuttin' But Trouble (aka Nut) πŸ₯œ

And

🧈 Rattie Asylum Butter Wouldn't Melt (aka Butter) 🧈

All 5 bucks are now being bonded and getting to know each other at the Asylum and I had the pleasure of meeting all of them this weekend - and I can honestly say I am in love with them all already! All of them are such cheeky and individual personalities and I'm marking off the days until they come to join us! (And I'm under no doubt that the Rattle Asylum boys will continue to corrupt the Blaise Rattery boys in the meantime and going forward πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

We've also now set up our rattery page over at Relish Rattery as we want to keep our rattery and rescue very separate, so please jump over there and join us on our journey!

But wait there's more! πŸ‘€

Keep updated for the reveal of some absolutely bloody gorgeous girls!

Who doesn't love a Christmas dinner?

Well rescue ratties are no exception! This year can you spare the cost of a cup of coffee to sponsor a rescue rat so they can enjoy their very own (rat safe) Christmas dinner (with treat cracker) too?

If you'd like to donate you can do so via this link:

https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8ZVXy5wCb8

On Xmas eve Mr LongTails and myself will go out, and buy the ingredients to be able to cook our rattie residents their own dinners, with a small treat cracker for afters (and even a pudding if enough is raised!)

We will be posting photos of the rats enjoying their lunch on our social media channels on boxing day (I would say Christmas but we all know how hectic that can be πŸ˜†)

Let's spread a little cheer to those who need it πŸ’œ

We all like Christmas dinner, right? Well so do rats! For the cost of a cup of coffee you can sponsor a rat to receive their very own, rat safe Christmas dinner this year! We're not asking for huge donations, just to forgo that one coffee this month to help make Xmas a little more special for all th...

RESCUE UPDATE!

2 of the girls from our recent rescue have now given birth (despite preventative measures, thanks, Galastop)

We now have a total of 16 beans! All rats have now been fully quarantined and are ready to be allocated to new homes (with the exception of the two mamas and their broods)

Due to them having zero socialisation until they came here, I'd recommend these went to more experienced homes who have the time and patience to bring them around, or would be happy to just let them be a rats rat with minimal interaction.

If you'd like to apply to give them a home (or any of our ratty residents) please drop us a message for a link to our rehoming form

In the mean time - enjoy some 12 day old baby spam!

EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!

As some of you may know, next year I embark on my breeding journey - with the love and support of many wonderful breeders (you know who you are ladies!) That I've had the pleasure to meet over the last year - so first I'd like to thank them all for giving up their time to mentor me, teach me, and become my close friends πŸ’œπŸ’œ

Well, some of the foundation babas are now in the world so I'm going to be doing introduction posts over the next few weeks!

First up are these beautiful boys from Katie Cracknell at Blaise Rattery - 2 cinnamon and 1 Cinnamon Silken, who we have decided to name:

🧁 Blaise Whisper Sweet Muffins In My Ear (aka Muffin) 🧁

🍩 Blaise Donut Kill My Vibe (aka Donut) 🍩

And last but not least!

🌭 Blaise You're The Sosig To My Bun (aka Sosig) 🌭

I genuinely can't wait to meet these lovely boys when they reach their homing age! They will be joined by 2 other foundation bucks (who I will reveal in due course)

Exciting if slightly nerve-wracking times ahead for us here at LongTails!

Just an update for anyone who's been following the feeder breeder rescue - all rats are now safe with us, we have a total of 21 plus 2 live beans in one pen who are literally hours old....

3 adult bucks, 2 baby bucks, 10 baby does, 6 adult does. Ages vary from what I'm guessing as little as 3 weeks up to 18 months tops.

Never been socialised so will be quarantined, receive medical care and will work on socialisation - we want to extend an absolutely HUGE thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. Enjoy this photo of one of the baby girls enjoying being able to climb for the first time in her life πŸ’œ

We've been alerted today of a feeder breeder setup, including 20 rats being sold on a certain pet website.

We've spoke to the seller, who is refusing to let us take the animals separately and him keep the rack - meaning we have to buy the entire thing, including the animals and racking system, plus pay for it to be transported to LongTails HQ....

We have 5 days to raise Β£500, to try and stop these rats from being bred back to back for food.

The racking will be destroyed - taking it out of circulation. Whilst it may not stop the overall problem of rodent mills, any small action helps.

If you could help donate towards this cause we would forever appreciate it.

Donations can be made via this fundraising link: https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8Z747CVtMa

Or directly to PayPal with the email address [email protected]

Help us save them from a horrible fate.....

We were made aware of someone selling 20 rats with a feeder breeder setup - he's unwilling to split the rats from the setup so we're raising money to buy the rack to take it out of circulation, and help re-home the rats so they will never be bred from again. We are also fundraising to cover the cost...

I truly admire the lengths that Cupcake Rats is going to to ensure the health and safety of the rats that were dumped in Somerset....

And it appears that the situation is worse than it was originally thought to be, with more being caught, including babies.

Obviously this scale can cost a lot in medical care, food and health checks - if you can help in any way possible, please donate using this link - no animal deserves to be thrown out like trash, and no animal ever should be!

I love receiving messages from pet homes with updates on the ratties they're caring for, it really warms my heart and makes me smile!

Yesterday I received a wonderful message from Kirsty Bayliss - who kindly took in 3 of the lovely Apricot babies who were born here at the rescue!

Apparently these two ladies (Kara and Mog) wowed the judges at yesterday's MRC show, walking away with 2 rosettes and a trophy no less!!

Kirsty has done an absolutely stunning job of carrying on their care and love after they left us, and I couldn't be prouder for her or the girls! Please join me in wishing her a hearty congratulations on their achievement! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

I just want to take a moment to make a little appreciation post.

It's been a tough few months here at the rescue, with people trying to tear me down repeatedly.

However I want to focus on the positives.

First, I'd like to say a huge thank you to Mesozoic Rattery, Blaise Rattery , Lurelin Rats, Cupcake Rats, Kabuki Rats and Rattie Asylum Stud - they have shown the rescue and myself a huge amount of support, had my back, and been there for me when things got tough. They've also taken the time to help me learn the ins and outs of breeding ready for when I get my foundations early 2024 (all going well of course!)

I also want to say a huge thank you to everyone who follows us who has shown their love - whether it be donations, items from our Amazon wishlist, adopting rattos or even just liking/sharing our posts on Facebook, Tiktok and Instagram. Even small gestures such as this, help us reach those rattos that need our help.

It's people like this that enable us to carry on doing what we do, and hopefully will do for years to come.

And to those who are trying to damage the work we do I have but one thing to say:

Yesterday was a very anxious day for us as we returned to Tempsford Rat Show (the same show where we lost 2 beautiful babies Ophelia and Cassandra and Relish our heart rat) so as you can imagine emotions were high and I wasn't sure if I could face going, but I'm so glad I did!

Digestive Biscuit (bred by Rattie Asylum Stud) walked away with Best Adult Doe, Best Adult Pet and Reserve Best Pet, winning her first 2 pet stars and we couldn't be more proud of our little heathen! (Even if her sister Jaffa Cake doesn't understand you eat cucumber, not lie on it!)

Lickety also placed 3rd in Adult Owned Buck, and earned a joint special with his brother Stumpy for "Best Friends"

And Pineapple walked away with 2nd Place in Marked Dumbo Adult!

All my ratties did so well and I couldn't be more proud of them!

14/08/2023

As some of you may be aware, at the NFRS AGM this year there was a horrific accident which took the lives of two beautiful kittens and my heart rat, way too soon.

It has taken me a while to gather the strength to write this post, because as much as I am told it isn't my fault, or a freak accident, the wound is still raw and will take time to process and heal. I was not the only one who lost beloved pets that day, the grief was shared with the rat mama of the beautiful girls I'd collected, and I can only apologise to her that I could not save them too. Our hearts are broken in unison, and we both need time to grieve.

I hope that their passing serves as a warning to others that you never know what could happen in the blink of an eye, and I am forever grateful that there were people there to help my surviving boy Mars pull through when I believed all hope was lost.

Their quick actions saved his life, and allow him to continue on, a small celebration in a world of pain that helps to lessen the blow of such a tragic occurrence.

I will not be sharing details of what happened as it serves no purpose, those who need to know, know the truth of the matter, and it will not help to share those details to allow trolls to take advantage for their own sick amusement.

So I make this post to honour the lives of those who passed, may they cross the rainbow bridge with happiness, surrounded by love and treats until we meet again, and to celebrate the veracity of Mars and his will to survive, and the quick actions of knowledgeable and caring people who saved him and have been there for both the breeder and myself - you are seen, you are appreciated, and we are forever grateful.

Relish, Ophelia and Cassandra - gone too soon but never to be forgotten πŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ’œ

***IN SEARCH OF THEIR FUREVER HOME***

Meet the Sanderson Sisters, Mary, Winifred and Sarah (if you know you know 😎) 6 month old intact does looking for their new family to love.

All 3 are littermates and came to us with younglings in tow, all of which are now out of the nest (and you can probably see the relief on these girls faces haha)

All 3 are friendly and don't mind being picked up and handled, but Winifred does like to do the nip test to see if you're food or not. They have been reintroduced to each other and happily live together.

None of us here seem to be able to figure out what variety they are, as they seem to be a muddy mix up of pearl, mink, and what I can only describe as "British summer grey" πŸ˜‚

If you can offer these ladies a loving home please drop us a message via our page for more information and to apply πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ
