Sunday mornings are for cuddles and scratches! ๐
๐ We are on our summer break and it feels like FOREVER since I saw this lovely lady! Usually itโs at the very least a weekly occurrence, usually more.
๐ We will be back recording our podcast in September at some point once the hectic mess of starting new schools for our kids has settled down!! We like to keep it real ๐คฃ

๐ดA huge thank you for being amazing and so generous with your time and help. I canโt tell you how happy and motivated I am now following your visit. We achieved a big step forward in those few days. And I have a plan. Itโs been so fab. ๐ด

Like many of you we had to be inventive with space for all the animals during the storm! ๐
Conquest Centre - equine activities for the wider community
๐ดEquiScholars Take Over๐ด
While Kate is busy teaching EquiScholars to our learners, we thought we would give you an insight into one of the sessions delivered at Conquest today!
๏ฟฝ๐ด๐We put our own twist on Activity 3.4 (Hearing). The below video shows Kate testing our horsesโ reaction to loud noises - much to our studentโs entertainment!
We learnt that herds may react in different ways, depending on their level of training. For example, at Conquest, the horses are trained to not โspookโ at loud noises (yes, kateโs chicken dancing included!๐).
Our learners concluded that if these noises had been made around a different herd, (e.g. a herd of wild ponies) the reaction would have been very different!
Note: This is not a required part of the activity, simply a โKate Specialโ ๐
๐ด Chill out time in between lessons ๐
๐ Yesterday our fab A Team trained the goats! The video gets better ๐
Just trying to get the goats apart and into their sections was the goal - we did achieve it!
๐ Working cross species is great for improving your training skills.

The donkeys got in with the horses yesterday ๐ฑ Offering Elizabeth some early cleavers for inflammation - she had to run around a lot! ๐ฑ
๐ โNow thatโs what I call horse training!โ ๐
Just a little weekend reminder that if youโre not having fun then neither is your horse! ๐ด
These next few months are the hardest in the UK for anyone who owns horses (or any animal in fact), dark mornings and evenings, the relentless wet weather, the constant poo picking in the bogs that once were fields and so much more! In fact, Becky and I discuss these very points in our latest podcast which is out on Monday. Season 5 Can you believe it?! Tune in and become part of a community of people who are keeping it real in the depths of winter. โ๏ธ
๐ฆ Weโre 4 sessions into Batmanโs tack training and heโs doing so well!
Weโve started with using a sheepskin saddle and will move onto his heavier saddle in time.

**EQUISCHOLARS TAKE OVER WEEK**
๐ดThe EquiScholars curriculum includes case studies to further explain certain concepts. Below is one of the case studies from our 3rd Module, The Basics of Behaviour which explores the equine ethogram in detail. Play is an important aspect of this but more importantly we can show how this knowledge is something that can be pulled upon in the day to day management of our horses, not only to help meet their needs and reduce the risk of unwanted behaviours but also to help with exercise.
Case Study โ George and Josh
Have you ever seen two ponies play?
Josh arrived at the Conquest Centre many years ago and used to get himself into lots of funny situations. When the weather was really bad because of snowfall or flooding, we would keep the herd in our big indoor arena overnight. When the grooms arrived in the morning to let them out of the arena, they would find that all the arena equipment would be scattered around and Josh would be standing in the middle of a big mess!
He soon became known as the pony that would break things and generally find himself in awkward situations. Some people labelled him as the โnaughty horseโ which wasnโt really a fair assessment of him. He simply had a high play drive and struggled to find a herd mate that would play with him. A few years later George arrived at the Centre and he and Josh became great play mates. They would play all the time and we found that Josh wasnโt being found in those awkward situations anymore because he finally had another pony to fulfil his play needs with.
We then used this as a way to exercise them both in a fun and positive way. They would be taken down to the arena together and let free, they would play chase games and run around for as long as they wanted.
P.S They still play at any opportunity they get! :-)

๐Back to our usual hijinks! Little Green Stables
๐ดSo much fun playing this with Rum today, usually Becky will hide behind something and I will station Rum at the cone and give the cue "Rum, let's go!" and off he goes to find her but he is REALLY good at that now and we wanted to change things up a bit. Instead Becky came up with the brilliant idea of Hide & Seek A to B's!
๐You can also see that Rum is wearing his saddle, we want to make the saddle a "non-thing" if that makes any sense?!?! ๐ Rather than the saddle signifying ride or job time we also want it to mean fun games too!
๐น video along with many many others are on our Patreon Site where we share content on a range of different horse's training journeys' , behavioural principles, CPD information, anatomy, massage, foraging, enrichment and much more and all for under ยฃ10 per month!
