We see this reaction, a little, too often when clipping.
Correct work and regular maintenance is key to keeping our horses fit and healthy 💥

Scallop technique used on this lovely little Fell X.

Perfect for showing, jumping, dressage or if you have one that likes to rub them out! It is one continuous plait from ears to withers.

🍂 Reminder to all seasonal clients to get your clipping booked in… sorry to say it 🍂

Extremely busy with show prep, holiday and day-day yard cover so it’s really important that if you are on a deadline then get your clipping booked in. We’ve already had a shake up to fit first clips in… Just 3 weeks away 😳

Clipping a dirty coat can cause all kinds of problems for both you and your horse 😡Despite the obvious of a not-so-great finish, you can also run the risk of damaging your clipper, blunting your blades and cause unnecessary discomfort and irritation to your horse.

Always make sure the coat is as clean as possible before you start clipping. If bathing isn't an option, try the hot clothing method or an extremely good groom!

You can read more about Hot Clothing here: https://buff.ly/2Um2LPS

With the current weather conditions we are having it is likely that we will be having grass growth spikes. You may need to consider restricting your horses' grazing if they are prone to putting on weight or have underlying conditions like EMS or cushings that could easily lead to laminitis.
Did you know nearly 90% of laminitis cases are due to an underlying hormonal or metabolic issue?

If you have any concerns about your horse/pony please contact us 01626 824600.

Nettles offer a way for laminitics to balance sugars in their blood, as it helps prevent sugar spikes and so places pressure on the actions that insulin needs to operate. The glucoquinone compound in nettle helps this balance and has the same benefit for humans with diabetes Nettles are rich in Iron and Vitamin C and most horses will happily eat them once they have been chopped down and allowed to wilt, they will help themselves when edible.
Nettles also help support a healthy blood supply and circulation.
Everything in moderation.

‘Sticky W***y’ 🌱

For all our clients, specially those with horses who have CPL!

Horses love Sticky W**d and it is really good for them!
Did you know?...
Sticky w**d (Galium aparine) more commonly known as Clivers, Goose Grass, Sticky W***y or Cleavers is a very useful herb for supporting the lymphatic system and is a diuretic. This means that it is particularly good for flushing out swellings and inflammation. It is good for allergies, for supporting the liver and kidneys and cleanses the blood. It is also good for skin and hair - as it is rich in silica it helps with hair strength, and it is a great source of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants.

Give your horse a healthy treat with a small haynet made up of clivers, wilted nettles, dandelions and cowparsley. It's a great way of adding natural nutrients and herbage to the diet, especially if your horse can't browse the hedgerows.
