Hi, we have sadly had a female, adult tortoiseshell deceased cat bought into our Thetford practice - she is un-microchipped. Please give us a call on 01842 764244 if you believe she may be yours.

18/05/2024

Please bear with us during week commencing 20th May 2024.

We are transitioning to a new and improved computer system. A few things may take us a little longer and we will be closing Brandon and Attleborough to allow all staff to work together in our Thetford and Watton practices.

We do appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

Thank you 😀

Message from Head Receptionist, Amber Hack: I would like to take this opportunity on National Receptionists Day to thank the Old Golfhouse Vets reception team for their constant dedication and commitment to the company, the team and our clients. Reception are the first contact for many of our clients, the warm greeting on the end of the phone or the welcoming smile when you enter one of our practices. The Old Golfhouse would fail to operate without them and for all their hard work we are extremely grateful.

Being microchipped will be a legal requirement in England for cats from Monday 10 June 2024.
Making sure your cat’s microchip is up to date is important because if they did go missing, it could make the difference in being reunited with them.
Give us a call to book your cat in for an appointment for microchipping and don’t forget, a microchip is included when you join The Healthy Pet Club, find out more at vetcollection.co.uk/health-plans-and-products/healthy-pet-club

We are encountering IT issues at our Watton practice and cannot currently access our emails so would ask that you call us instead of emailing - we will update you as soon as we have the issues fixed. To help with this we are closing our Brandon practice tomorrow with support staff helping at other clinics. Thank you for your understanding.

You may never have seen behind the consultation room in a veterinary practice.

So take a look at the work our vets and nurses do on the front line every day to look after animals in veterinary practices, hospitals, in the field and on call - so that they receive the best possible care.

Thanks to Molly Case for the poem you have written about our profession.

Sustainability and why it matters to us:
In addition to their own footprint, the veterinary profession is closely involved with many sectors that have a direct impact on the environment. These are also topical areas in current conversations around sustainability such as food, farming and antimicrobial resistance.
Vets work to champion and safeguard animal health and welfare and undertake varied roles across a wide range of animal species. Their expertise enables them to gain a unique insight into the damaging effects that our changing planet is having on animals.
As a health-centred profession, and key player in the One Health Agenda, vets recognise the interconnections between human wellbeing, animal wellbeing, and the wellbeing of the environment. Vets are one of the most trusted professions in the UK and their opinion matters.
Since the Vet Futures report was published in 2015, the urgency and public awareness of the issues facing humans, animals and the natural world has accelerated significantly. There is no better time to start getting involved. (Information taken from the BVA website).

We would love to hear any sustainability ideas that we as a practice can incorporate. Please email us on [email protected]

Meet Milton, a 10yr old SBTxLab.
Milton came to see one of our vets for a lameness consultation in March 2023, during this appointment we completed a LOAD questionnaire which scored high, showing severe Osteoarthritis signs and combined with being obese with a body condition score of 9/9, a treatment plan was put into place to try and alleviate his discomfort.
Milton started pain relief, joint supplements and a weight loss programme with our nursing team.
When Sam our nurse first met Milton, he was pretty grumpy about coming into practice and having his measurements taken. He weighed just over 30kgs and a plan was implemented, with Milton’s owner weighing his meals and managing family meal times. After a lot of dedication and hard work Milton started to lose weight. We monitored his weight loss every 6-8weeks; weighing him on scales, taking measurements and a general check in with Milton’s owner, when we started to see some changes in his demeanour. The more weight he lost, the happier he became, and now he comes charging into the consult room with a wagging tail.
Today we saw Milton back for his final weight check and he has successfully maintained his target weight, having lost over 5kgs, his body condition score is now a healthier 5/9. Take a look at Milton’s amazing before and after pictures!
We are super proud of his owner hard work and patience. As we know how much obesity effects Osteoarthritis in our pets, this amazing weight loss journey will help Milton so much going into his more senior years and managing his Osteoarthritis.
If you feel your pet could benefit from seeing one of our nurses to discuss their weight or mobility, please get in touch.
Please take a look at Body scoring charts, this provides a much more individual look at your pets condition compared to breed weight recommendations
