A telephone scammer has been contacting veterinary clients claiming that they have got their missing pet and require payment for its treatment over the phone prior to collection.

Reminding everyone to think about their pets in hot weather. Please do not leave pets in cars even with widows open. Just travelling to the beach caused greyhound Jet to pant and become distressed. A gallop through the water soon cooled her down.

Grapes and their dried variants
When dogs eat grapes of any kind and in any form, they are at risk of kidney (renal) failure. All types of grapes, whether cooked, seedless, peeled, dried, or fresh, are toxic to dogs, even in small amounts. You should also avoid giving your dog any grape products such as raisins, juices, jelly, or jam.
It's so important to contact the vets in the case of any amount no matter how small is consumed by your pet. Watch out for Christmas pudding & mince pies throughout this time of year! 🎄

Chocolate toxicity and the signs it can cause;
vomiting, diarrhea, increased thirst, panting or restlessness, excessive urination, and racing heart rate. In severe cases, symptoms can include muscle tremors, seizures, and heart failure.
Chocolate contains Theobromine which is toxic to dogs and other pets. The levels of toxicity depends on how much chocolate your dog has eaten, how big they are, and the cocoa content of the chocolate – the darker the chocolate the more toxic it’s likely to be.
If your dog has eaten chocolate, keep the packaging and call your us immediately.
Chocolate can also contain a small amount of caffeine which can be harmful to pets.
Although white chocolate doesn’t contain any cocoa solids (so toxicity isn’t a risk), it does contain a lot of fat and sugar, which can cause stomach upsets and in severe cases, pancreatitis. Cocoa powder is especially toxic because it contains an extremely high concentration of cocoa solids.

Carful of pine cones whilst out on your walks, these do cause blockages which require surgical removal. If ever in doubt that your pet has eaten something they shouldn't have contact the practice.

Fairy lights! Equally stunning and hazardous. Watch out for the wires around small furries as they can electrocute themselves if chewed. The wires also pose a choking hazard to felines that climb trees and can tangle in them very quickly. Supervision is around them is safest. 🎄

Christmas baubles! Especially glass ones can be easily broken upon falling off the tree (being pawed off the tree) - this can cause injuries to paws and if chewed, to their mouths.
We recommend placing them out of reach of inquisitive cats and dogs and supervise them when in the room with the tree.
Contact the practice for advice if your pet is bleeding as a result of this and we can help. 🎄

With the festive season in full swing, our houses will be filling up with decorations and foods that can cause issues with our pets. Throughout this time we will dedicate some of our social media posts towards looking out for these and any symptoms to look out for.
Kicking off with TINSEL! This stuff is so festive and adds a whole lot to the feel inside our homes, unfortunately cats and dogs think it's pretty cool too.
We do get animals in with intestinal blockages from consuming tinsel, this unfortunately does result in surgically removal it's a glitzy, glamorous job at times!
Try to keep tinsel up high and out of reach of the paws that play with it. 🎄

We had our annual Duck Race on Sunday 🐥 It was a great day and no one fell in the river. The rain even held off till the end. Only one small issue was Jenny getting attached by Squirrels throwing conkers at her while waiting for the ducks. 😂🐿️ The Winners are: 1st Place: Steven Lockhart who wins a Scottish hamper. 2nd Place: Lee-ann MacDonald who wins a bottle of prosecco and chocolates. 3rd Place: Gail Scott who wins a love to shop voucher. £300 has been raised for the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home. We have the pleasure of treating Cole the other day with his over grown teeth! Rabbits teeth grow continuously throughout their life at a rate of 2-3mm per week. To combat overgrowth a rabbit requires foods with lots of chewing. These could be leafy greens, HAY & grass as well as a complete kibble. This is very sweet Bluebell who was in with us this week getting spayed. As you can see she recovered from her anaesthetic really quickly and was ready for her food, nurse India nearly lost a finger in the process. ❤️😺
