Emergency First Aid for dogs

Dogs suffering from heatstroke urgently need to have their body temperature lowered gradually for the best chance of survival.

Here's what to do:

β€’ Move the dog to a shaded and cool area

β€’ Immediately pour cool (not cold to avoid shock) water over the dog. Tap water (15-16Β°C) has been found to be the most effective at cooling dogs with heat-related illnesses. In a true emergency, any water is better than nothing.

β€’ Wet towels placed over the dog can worsen the condition, trapping heat. In mild cases towels can be placed under the dog, but never over, and in a true emergency water immersion or pouring water with air movement is ideal.

β€’ Allow the dog to drink small amounts of cool water

β€’ Continue to pour cool water over the dog until their breathing starts to settle, but not too much that they start shivering

β€’ Dogs that have lost consciousness will stop panting, despite still having a very high temperature, these dogs require urgent aggressive cooling as a priority.

β€’ Throughout the treatment of heatstroke try to avoid pouring water on or near your dog's head, as there is a risk of them inhaling water which could lead to drowning, especially for flat-faced and unconscious dogs.

Once the dog is cool, take them to the nearest vet as a matter of urgency.

Some types of dogs are more prone to heatstroke, like very old or young dogs, dogs with thick, heavy coats or dogs with very short flat faces like pugs and bulldog types. Dogs with certain diseases or on some types of medication are also more at risk.

Good evening all 🀩

Just a quick post of a warning what with the temperature looking to hit the 30's over the next few days,

Please please try to walk your furbabies at the coolest parts of the day and if your unsure if the pavement or roads are too hot to walk them on please go out and place the back of your hand to the ground if its too hot for u to touch then the answer is no its way too hot for their poor little pads, please if u can make a shaded area in your garden for them to get some shade ( if u havent already got an area for them shaded ) and please please make sure they have plenty of water as heat stroke isn't very nice in a animal.πŸ˜”πŸ˜₯

Now i know most or all of you now this but i really just wanted to put this out there as a precaution πŸ™‚

Hi guys. I hope you are all keeping well and your pets are getting everything they need at the moment. If anyone is struggling with their pets in anyway please feel free to contact me. However I would also like to point you all in the direction of a good friend of mine who can do absolutely amazing things. She is now offering this great service to everyone. I would highly recommend this if you are able as its learning but it's also about having some fun at the same time. Please check her page out for more information.

Two new courses now available via FaceBook!

Hopefully everyone is starting to find a rhythm to this new way of living. It's certainly been a challenge!

If you are now feeling ready to spend some time learning new skills that could really help your dog, how about signing up for one, or both, of the new courses I've added?

The courses are 'Introduction to ACE Free Work' and 'Introduction to TTouch Body Work'. The courses will help you understand your dog better and give you a host of tools for helping your dog to feel more relaxed, enriched and balanced. You will learn how to set up and use Free Work with your own dog, learn 10 TTouch touches, and improve your observational skills so you can spot changes in your dog.

Each course includes a downloadable booklet written by Sarah Fisher, along with videos from Sarah and Janet Finlay. Both Sarah and Janet are amazing educators and animal advocates. I addition I will add some further content PLUS you will be able to post your own videos of doing Free Work or touches with your own dogs, which you can then get feedback on, either privately from me, or more widely from others on the course.

The course is FaceBook based, so you can access it on any device and anywhere you use FaceBook. The main content will all be available from day one. so you can work at your own pace as/ when suits you. You will be able to rewatch content at your leisure as the group will remain open for at least 6 months.

You can buy access to one course for Β£45 or both for Β£75 (a saving of Β£15). Β£10 from every sale will go to the assistance dog charity Canine Partners, who like most charities at the moment is facing a massive loss of income due to fundraining events being cancelled.

To join, go to Sea City Dogs- Introduction to ACE Free Work or Sea City Dogs- Introduction to TTouch Body Work and you will find details of how to pay and then you can ask for access via the Group. Any queries, PM me!

I think every dog guardian can get something from these courses, so please join today and do share this post with friends.

Covid 19 update

Due to the government announcement earlier today, I am sad to say I have to suspend all walks at present until I am advised otherwise. These are unprecedented times and we all need to make sure we stay safe. I have plenty of tips of how to help entertain your dogs during this period. Please message me if you would like some ideas. I will contact all customers in the coming days to discuss what what we can do and what support is needed. In the meantime please stay home and stay safe. Be a lifesaver.

From eight weeks old, our puppies live with volunteers up and down the country who give them the best start to becoming an amazing assistance dog. πŸΎπŸ’œ

We are desperately in need of puppy parents across the country to look after our puppies-in-training like little Gail here, can you help?

Find out more and let us know you are interested in this highly rewarding voluntary role on our website here: caninepartners.org.uk/puppy-parents/

Welcoming another customer to you. This is lovely Luna. Unfortunately for me she is not too photogenic as once that lead is on she wants to walk as far as possible and doesn't have time for selfies. Shes a lovely girl who just loves her walks.
