If you happen to see a lone hoglet or two out and about in the evening, don’t be too hasty in scooping them up for rescue. Observe for a while and look at the surroundings. Here are Huff and Puff, they, along with their Mum Hermione, are currently residing with us due to nest disturbance. Huff and Puff were newborn on admission and Mum has done a wonderful job of raising them. They are now beginning to wander out of the nest area, sometimes in the day (they are toddlers!) but they never go too far. This screenshot was taken this evening. The babies are not alone. Nothing cuter than sleepy hoglets! 🥰 We are currently full of Hoglets at various stages. These two are of three siblings who were with their Mumma when she was hit by a car. Luckily, a wonderful member of the public came to the rescue and got Mumma and the babies to a vet. Unfortunately, Mumma didn’t make it leaving Wolverine, Deadpool and Ladypool (Hugh Jackman Ryan Reynolds) being partially hand reared (they are weaning) here at Hamble Hedgehogs. This is alongside the other 8 adolescent Hoggies and a Mumma with 2 babies. Funds are running low. If you’d like to help us, please see our pinned post to see how. As a rescue, we regularly tag our local releases for research purposes. Small, blue heat shrink tags with 2 letters and numbers on them so we can monitor the hedgehog if we see it or identify Hoggie in certain circumstances. But for clarification, please read this xx

Helwo Hoomans. Habibi here. I loved my Mumma but Mumma had to leaves us. That’s me and my bruvver ands sista. We was only ickle but Mumma gots poorly and her milkies tastes funny, we gots belly aches. A nice hooman noticed Mumma and found us. Hooman gave us medisin to make our tummies better but Mumma hads gone to the rinba ridge so we hads to stay with da hooman. Hoomans says it was coz of nasty chemwicals that were put on and nears our lovwly nests. Hooman said its name was Gly…Glyfos… hooman help! (Glyphosate apparently animal friendly when dry!) We all misses our Mumma and cried for her but hooman is kind and helped us growed. Hooman says we is lucky. What lucky? We just want Mumma ands to be wandering free looking for tasty bugs ands grubs. Hoomans promises us we will ones day. But please, don’t use thoses nasties they gives us bads bellyaches and mades our Mumma go way. Hooman says that’s elbow grease is goods enough!! Scuse me whilst I eats as I gots growings to do! Love Habibi, Habeena and Horace the hoglets ###xx

Sharing this as it’s soooo true! We are currently a bit quiet as Ninn has been very unwell in hospital. We still have hoggies in though and still keep going! 🦔🦔

Hi Everyone.Sorry long post but please read.
After my last sick and left out hog that died and a comment clearly left by the finders relative that i should get my facts right and should not have used my rescue for it to have been made public but i never mention names i only put as a finder.
Here are some facts for you maybe you should realise what i give up,and feel so angry when people leave a hedgehog out sick and sadly dies.
What you don't realise is the emotional stress,the frustration and upsetting things i have to deal with everyday,caring for sick and injured hedgehogs that come in,with awful wounds,maggots,flystrike,ticks, open wounds,broken limbs,lost an eye,thin,emaciated,ringworm,cut off nose,prolapses,and thats just a few.
You don't realise the care they need to give them every hope of survival,like any animal they should get that as soon as it is seen.
What you don't realise is every hour of every day i give up my own time to nurse these sick and injured hedgehogs on my own, yes on my own,even through the night with babies that need hourly feeds 24/7 and no sleep.
I have severe osteporosis in my spine with having 9 wedged compression fractures in my spine and sometimes i find it hard, but i push myself to carry on my rescue work because it gives me a purpose to look after hedgehogs that need me.
I care for my husband who has progressive parkinsons disease,which is very stressful for us both and emotionally draining.
What you don't realise is that i give up my time to spend with family and friends.
I don't have holidays last one was in 2018,i work 365days and I don't get paid i don't take a wage i am a non profit rescue who does this out of love, commitment,dedication,and passion i have to help save these little sick animals.
Maybe ask yourself if you could do it probably not, because it takes over your life, you won't have a normal life.
I am at the point where i am feeling so weighed down with it all at the moment i'm not sure if i want to continue.
People do not realise the extra pressure you put on rescues,when you see a sick hog out in the day and it needs help as soon as you see it,because its us rescue's who have to pick up the pieces and spend endless hours to try to save it.
You don't see what we do once you hand it over,thats all i ask is you see a sick hog out in the daytime then call a rescue or take vets.

We are still working hard here at HQ finishing the much needed renovations after our devestating leak. Things turned out worse than first thought with mould and rotting wood. We’ve had to replace everything from the floor to the electrics! The Hogspital is now watertight. We’ve done this whilst being mindful of patients in situ so it’s been a long arduous task and now we are just over half way through putting everything back. We didn’t realise how much equipment we actually have 🫣 If you’ve sent anything from our Amazon wish list, Thankyou! We haven’t got round to opening many parcels as our time has been taken up with repairs and caring for the hogs. We will do an update video as soon as we have finished. ###

Happy Spring everyone! Hedgehogs are beginning to wake up if they’ve hibernated so please don’t forget to leave extra water and biscuits out. If you can, leave some dry clean dust extracted barley straw around so they can build fresh nests. Check your nesting boxes, if empty it’s time to give them a good clean and top up with fresh bedding. ###

Still hard at work here finishing the repairs to the Hogspital after our leak. Turned out to be far worse than thought and we have had to replace a wall, floor and flooring and the electrics. Work has been slow progress as we still have residents with us. We have another few weeks of work to do and we are recycling and getting freebies wherever we can. Hopefully we will be ready in time for season start!! ###
