As the nights draw in, a lot of us will be starting to walk our dogs in the dark. 🌚
Check out these top tips from The Healthy Pet Club on staying safe while out and about:

We humans are probably not looking forward to the shorter days of autumn and winter. For many people this often means getting up in the dark and coming home in the dark too. It can have implications for our pets as well, so now is a good time to review what we can do to […]

Seasonal canine illness (SCI) is a condition which currently has no known cause. It affects dogs shortly after walking in woodland and can be fatal, though often isn’t if treated early.
It’s most commonly seen between August and November, hence the name seasonal 🍂
SCI has been seen in dogs of any age, gender or breed, but doesn’t seem to affect other animals such as cats. Dogs become unwell roughly 24-72 hours after walking in woodland, with symptoms primarily affecting the gastrointestinal tract 🐕
Find out the symptoms to watch out for and you can read more about this condition here:

This month, we’re working with the vet sector and the NHS to encourage the return of out-of-date and unused antibiotics to help tackle the growing issue of antimicrobial resistance.

During our amnesty, we are asking our clients to return out-of-date and unused medicines to our practices for safe disposal.

We can also dispose of other medication other than antibiotics, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

Did you know that the safest way to dispose of your pet’s unused/out-of-date flea and worm treatments and veterinary medicines is to return them to your veterinary surgery?

Always replace the lid securely before putting in to normal household waste. This prevents any trace of the product left inside the pipette from seeping out, which could be harmful to the environment.

For more information on safe disposal of used, unused or out-of-date flea and worm treatments and medicines, visit our website https://ayresveterinaryhospital.co.uk/safe-disposal-of-your-pets-unused-medicines/

You may have known Helen from our Cramlington branch and also the North Shields Hospital on a weekend. Her smile was infectious and we are deeply saddened to loose such a special friend. Our thoughts and condolences go her family and friends.

A message to our clients. We kindly remind you to park in the areas mentioned below when attending our North Shields Hospital. Unfortunately we are located on a permit only street and therefore need to remain respectful of the residents in the area and not park in their spots, particularly during permitted times. Lets try and keep moral high and all be kind to each other. We are trying our best to monitor and manage the situation where we can and we would appreciate your help to keep everybody happy. Thank you in advance!

Fizz, pop, bang! Fireworks season is almost upon us and for our pets it can be a worrying and scary time.

A good way to help children to understand that your pet may not be acting themselves, is explaining that animals may find fireworks scary and might need some quiet time when they’re feeling this way. As a family, you could even try and build a cosy den together for your pets to feel safer in!
