Hercules came to see our Hospital team recently, because he needed our help to 'find' one of his toys. Glad we could assist, Hercules!
Poppy, a 14-year-old Staffie, is one of our golden oldie patients who was unfortunately diagnosed with bladder cancer early in 2023. Thanks to regular chemotherapy treatment, her owners have been able to celebrate another year with her by their side and are grateful for each extra day they get to spend together.
Here she is after her recent follow up ultrasound scan and chemotherapy, enjoying some chicken as a tasty treat!
This case highlights the positive effect chemotherapy can have on patients and shows what's involved.
We wish her and her owner all the best for her treatment ahead!'
Antibiotic resistance is a global health issue, and we need your help to keep antibiotics working. That is why St George's Vets is taking part in the Antibiotic Amnesty 2023 which is returning again for a second year!
Throughout November 2023 we are asking pet owners to return any unused or leftover antibiotic medications to us for safe disposal. Please drop off any unused medications to your local St George's practice. You can hand them in to a vet, nurse or the reception team. This medication might be left-over from a recent prescription, antibiotics that you didn’t need or out-of-date medication.
Safe disposal prevents environmental pollution with antibiotic residues and reduces the global risk of antibiotic resistance.
Let’s keep antibiotics working, together!
Billy visits the Perton branch for his Wellness Screening appointment.
Billy is 8 years old so he was booked in for this appointment so both us and Billy's owners could keep a check of his health and record the findings as a baseline for future check ups.
Billy was given the all clear from his blood test, urine test and blood pressure check, and left with a few tips and recommendations for staying in tip top form.
If your pet is over the age of 5, we strongly recommend a wellness screening to carry out these extra investigatory tests and give you peace of mind.

Were you aware the title “Veterinary Nurse” is NOT protected under law?
This means that any person (unqualified and untrained) can call themselves a Veterinary Nurse.
We believe that the title RVN (Registered Veterinary Nurse) should be respected and protected.
Several academic bodies have been in the process for the last several years to ensure the title becomes protected to ensure the safety of our animals, and to recognise the hard work and training it takes to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse.
Their work still continues…

Our popular Wellness Screenings in action
Eric and Paul's owners took full advantage of the Wellness Screenings and came in for their thorough health screening.
It turned out to be a very useful visit as the tests that come part of the package revealed Eric to have Arthritis and Paul a heart murmur which both can be very common as our pets get older, but thankfully treatable.
It is findings like this that help us to help you keep your pets fitter for longer by being one step ahead.
A full health screen is £85. Pet Health Club members £63.75 with your plan discount.
Give your branch a call to have your pet health screened.

Tallulah Update - hindlimb awareness
At the start of Tallulah's rehabilitation, she was unaware of where her hindlimbs were and would not correct her foot when moved into a strange position. We have since enhanced nerve pathways so that she is more aware, and as you can see from the video, she is correcting the foot placement herself. This shows that her awareness of limbs has increased.
With many parasites out to harm your pet, it can be all too easy to overlook the routine treatments needed to keep them safe.
Lungworm is serious and not to be ignored. If you are unsure if your pet is protected, please give us a call.
Tallulah Treatment Update
This week Tallulah has had her 5th physiotherapy session and has made huge improvements. She is now able to go on longer walks where she can actually WALK instead of pulling and rushing everywhere, indicating she is more balanced.
The muscle strength in her back legs is slowly improving and she is more aware of where her legs are. This has made it easier for Tallulah to carry out normal daily activities that she would usually struggle with, such as walking over a step into the garden, something she used to trip over, and now completes with ease without even catching her feet.
Tallulah now has the energy and drive to initiate play, which she has not done for some time. She is stronger, more balanced and most importantly appears happier overall indicating a successful treatment so far.
Tallulah will continue to have regular physiotherapy sessions to check progress and alter her exercises accordingly. This will ensure the correct treatment is provided to allow her to progress in her rehabilitation plan.

Home Exercises
Tallulah is really getting used to her wobble board now. Her owner does this exercise twice a day for no more than 30 seconds a time, to slowly build muscle in her back legs.
If you scroll down to the first video where she is first being introduced to the wobble board, you will see that Tallulah has to be supported by Emily. Over the last month her strength has improved and now she only requires light taps to keep her steady so definitely worth keeping up the physio!

Laser Treatment
Tallulah has visited the physiotherapy clinic again after her initial assessment for a follow-up appointment. Tallulah’s owner reported that she was getting on much better with her walks at home and there seemed to be an improvement.
She was more balanced in her hindlimbs and appeared stronger. There was less dragging of her toes which indicated she was engaging her muscles more to pick her legs up. Although she still had poor awareness of her hind limbs, it had improved slightly.
Even though there was still areas of tension and compensatory soreness, Tallulah was much more comfortable on her lower back today which had been a particular area of discomfort in the first session. This indicated that exercise prescription and manual therapy alone had improved Tallulah’s condition over the last week.
To help support Tallulah further, LASER therapy was carried out in the session to help reduce pain and enhance healing. Tallulah will be having this treatment twice weekly whereby her progress will be continually assessed by Emily.
