We have had a number of sick dogs in recently with kennel cough from the Clonmel area. A common misconception is that only dogs boarding in kennels or in contact with large numbers of dogs are susceptible to the virus. This is untrue-the cases we have seen had not been boarding recently.

It is an airborne disease passed from dog to dog via airborne droplets- a case of "coughs & sneezes spreading diseases" & by direct nose to nose contact. It can be picked up in parks, housing estates, walkways, beaches etc.
Signs include a harsh, dry, hacking convulsive cough very much like a whooping cough in humans. The coughing can last for several weeks & during this time more serious complications, such as pneumonia, may arise.

If your dog isn't already vaccinated against kennel cough we would strongly advise doing so 🐕
