The First thing you should teach your cat from the early kitten stage is to come when called or a recall…how to do this ? 🤔 Well it’s not that difficult like you might think actually …
You always begin with first understanding what drives your cat , is it food ? Is it toys ? Is it you ? Once you know that life gets much more easier…In most cases the reward will be food.
Start working on a come when called command indoors in closed spaces and once your cat come you can praise them with a reward (be it the food/toy/ or you).
Pratice this multiple times and ensure that you always praise with the reward when they come.
Once you master this , you can start working on outdoor quiet and calms spaces..You can use the thinnest long line available from or even a drying clothes rope and practise the same recalls outdoors but remember to check if your cat eats the same rewards outdoors…Try practising this in quieter and open spaces without any disturbance and trees…
Remember your cat is also trying their best to work in unknown environments so be patient with them and go really slow…

Getting a Cat Home ? Things to keep at home prior :

1. Ample hiding spaces : Provide Ample hiding spaces for your cats , this can be in the form of cupboard beings open, on top of them , cardboard boxes, cat trees etc.
2. Litter & Box/Trays : You could either choose an open litter tray or closed litter box but make sure it is twice the size of your cat so it’s easy for them to move inside them.Choosing the Litter is also very important and maybe you might need to try a few to know which one your cat prefers but remember cats are desert animals so instinct tells them to instantly excrete on sandy surfaces.
3. Water & Food Bowls : You could choose any food & water bowl from amazon or a pet shop.
4. Cat Carriers : One important equipment to have and work with in the beginning itself to make it a positive experience.It must provide them air as well as safety for them.Use of a towel to cover them is helpful at times to reduce anxiety.
5. Scratch Boards : If you want to help your furniture stay intact , this is a must as well.It helps in multiple ways in terms of reliving anxiety , nails trimming etc.
6. Toys : By far the most important , use toys that mimic the predatory feel as cats are natural predators and play for them is more of in the form preying.
7. Collar & Leash : This can be used for safety but try to keep this as light as possible so as to have little to no weight on your cats body.

Things to Keep in mind for first time cat parents :

1. Make Sure you & your family are 100% sure : Understand that your bringing in a living being to your house and you must be well aware of all the responsibilities or their care.All members of the family must be on the same page for this decission.

2. Be Well Prepared with things at home prior to arrival : Take help from a Professional Behaviourist and keep things ready at home in terms of what you would need like , provide ample hiding spaces, water bowls , litter trays , litter, Scratching boards,Netting of your windows etc.

3. Vet : Finalise on your vet and understand all the health concerns that you need to be careful on from the beginning in terms of vaccinations , deworming etc.

4. Understanding your kitten : Learn from a Professional on different sounds cats make , different body postures , face signs and movements of cats to better understand your kitten to help strengthen your bond with them.

5.Socialising : Socialising your kitten is most important , since the socialising period starts early on for them and this will help in the adult behaviours being developed in them.
