Double bubble anyone?

This Diwali, came with dual Emergencies of GDV from Thane and Chembur during emergency OPD hours.

Gastric dilation and volvulus (GDV) is an acute, life-threatening condition that primarily affects large- and giant-breed dogs.

In it’s early stage, the stomach fills with gas, causing a simple gastric dilatation or "bloat".
A GDV, however, is a progression of the bloat into a volvulus, in which the huge, gas-filled stomach twists upon itself so that both the entrance and exit of the stomach become blocked.

Immediate medical and surgical intervention is required to optimize chance of survival in such cases.

Prophylactic Gastropexy is a valuable preventative procedure which we routinely perform and suggest in dogs, that are at high risk for GDV, like great dane, german shepherd, saint bernard, bassett hound, labradors etc.

Anxiety and stress due to firecrackers in Diwali, new year etc. is one of the common aetiology, apart from sudden activity post heavy, bulky meals.

Incase you notice any signs of bloating, discomfort or respiratory distress, do take your SuperPet to the nearest vet for an examination.

Gastroscopic removal of foreign body - Licky mat!

Enzo, 4 month old Golden retriever was presented in the clinic as soon as the parents learnt about his mischief- of eating the whole licky mat!

Upon examination and carrying out proper diagnostics, our surgery team immediately opted for gastroscopy over open abdominal surgery (laparotomy), to remove all the pieces of licky mat to avoid any obstruction in gastrointestinal tract.

Non invasive approach of gastroscopy saved
Enzo from suffering any pain, risk and worry of the abdominal incision and post op care.

SuperPet-Enzo was his usual and hopefully not rot so naught self, the very next day!am immediately

A heartwarming recovery of Lucky and Gabby!

Lucky (Beagle, 2years) and Gabby (Indie, 1.5years) were presented in emergency after consuming 20 ibuprofen + paracetamol tablets between them while playing.

Their condition was extremely unstable, gasping for breath, salivating, cynotic and blood values through the roof.

With condition that grave, more for lucky than Gabby, haemodialysis was the only treatment option for any scope of recovery ( for this central venous catheter was also put).

With help of blood filtration via haemodialysis, intensive care monitoring Lucky started recovering steadily.

Meanwhile Gabby was on high pressure oxygenation 24*7, along with meticulous monitoring and critical care management.

The very next day of hospitalisation, post treatment and procedures, their mucous membrane turned pink and blood values started coming within range.

The fact that they escaped near death situation and started eating within 36 hours is nothing short of a miracle!!

Happiest was the sight to see SuperPets - Lucky and Gabby, getting discharged post 2 nights ICU stay, and running back home with their family!!

We are very glad we could inaugurate our newest equipment- haemodialysis machine, in best possible way, by saving a soul and keeping the family of 4 intact!!
