We'd do well to take the advice of the WWF ‘When the Buying Stops, the Killing Can, too’
When owners stop buying from questionable sources, over the internet & from What's app groups is when the industry as a whole will be forced to take responsibility.

Yesterday on the side walk of a typical Mumbai street swamped with 5 pm traffic- a humble dog leash took on another job. It was taken off the dog, swung over a small tree branch to bring it down (for what purpose we do not know) and then re attached to the dog.

This was a French bull dog so the poor thing barely had the inclination to walk in the sweltering heat leave alone run.
But had it in a burst of energy run off it would've been straight into traffic. And you would most likely be reading of another 'lost dog' or a tragic accident of a pet run over by a car.

The incidence of lost dogs is disproportionately high. And once you witness such a scene - is it a wonder? When are pet parents, owners, guardians whatever label you choose - going to learn dog walking is not a person with a leash and a dog!

If you cannot invest in a reliable reputed dog walker or do it yourself do these dogs a favour, don't bring them home.

'Dognappers' are not uncommon especially with hard to breed brachys like French bull dogs and pugs. It is easy money for back yard breeders catering to clueless first time pet owners. Situations like these leave a dog vulnerable to theft and injury.

The Economic Times
This article does nothing but sensationalise a tragedy. No investigation into the training, breeding or conditions under which these dogs were bought/ adopted or raised.
Another breed maligned for no fault of it's own because human incompetence is rarely if ever addressed.

This is one of the many reasons, responsible pet businesses, breeders, vets - anyone in the community and industry does not make it easy for a family to bring these dogs into their homes.
Pet parenting is all well and good, but unless we urgently acknowledge and address this troubling trend of working breeds made easily available as family pets, because they "saw the breed online & it's cute" more incidents like this will occur.
