Meet Coco
She would growl snap at this kid and other family members when her food bowl was touched. This practice video sent by @jain_krinjal is a big deal!
Coco now patiently waits for her food to be served by the brother and her resource guarding has reduced. She no longer snaps and growls when her food bowl is touched or taken.
Resource guarding is one of the most common issue found in pet dogs.
If your dog doesn't let you take things from his mouth or becomes aggressive while food or toys are around him/her it is resource guarding.
Our dear boy Arthur, has crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday at midnight.💔 He was diagnosed with Gastric dilation and volvulus (GDV) . It is an enlargement of the stomach associated with rotation on the mesenteric access. GDV is an acute, life-threatening condition that primarily affects large- and giant-breed dogs, with a mortality rate of 20%–45% in treated animals. Immediate medical and surgical intervention is required to optimize survival in patients with GDV.
Our doctors and staff tried very hard to save him and we are devastated with this loss. Arthur's death is a learning for us, a learning that life is unpredictable, a learning that there's always a second chance to live from your past trauma and experience the beauty of the world. We are thankful to @inkedprofessor to have given us an opportunity to have met this beautiful boy and how he learnt to trust love and humans all over again. He deserved a better life and his past trauma didn't stop him from living....
You will be truely missed my love 🙏🏼🌹
Run free! I'm sure you're at a better place.
All the pet parents reading this please know that this can happen to anyone and anywhere, we really need better medical facilities in Pune. And I hope that this post raises awareness about this rare condition in dogs.

One of my favorite quotes is by Kay Laurence who said, “an error is simply the difference between my expectation and the dog’s response.” Think about that for a moment. Think about all the frustration, disappointment, sadness, and even anger we can feel when our dogs’ behavior is different from our expectations. Although those emotions are valid, they all exist in the space between what we think should be and what actually is.
.
I hear the “my dog should XYZ” almost daily in one form or another. We tend to expect too much too soon from puppies. We assume that mere months of training means our adolescent dogs should have reliable behaviors. We get frustrated when otherwise well thought out training plans aren’t panning out. God knows I’ve been there.
.
This isn’t to say that we shouldn’t have goals or want to improve our dogs’ behavior. But wouldn’t it be liberating if when doing so we viewed behavior for what it is today rather than what we think it should be? Seeing behavior as *information* rather than an indictment on our dogs allows us to focus on what we can do differently or better. It frees us from blaming our dogs and ourselves. It opens up a space where can hopefully hold a little bit more compassion. We are all doing the best we can with the information and skills we have today, our dogs included.
