Education programs at zoos provide valuable learning opportunities for school students. Zoos serve as living classrooms, allowing students to engage with and learn about various animal species from around the world.

One of the key benefits of a zoo education program is that it brings students face-to-face with animals they may have only read about in books or seen on TV. This firsthand experience helps to create a lasting impact and foster an appreciation for wildlife and conservation. By observing and interacting with these animals, students gain a deeper understanding of their behaviors, habitats, and the challenges they face in the wild.

In order to observe Swachhata Pakhwada from September 15th to October 2nd,2023,Shivamogga Zoo conducted public Awareness Camping.
The culmination of this observance coincides with the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi a beacon of cleanliness and harmony.

The activity typically involves providing separate bins or containers for different types of waste materials, such as plastics, paper, metals, and organic waste. The visitors are then guided on how to properly segregate their own waste and dispose of them in the appropriate bins.

The importance of waste segregation is explained to the visitors, including how it can help reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and ultimately protect the environment. This activity can also include a discussion on recycling and how recycled materials can be used to create new products.

By conducting waste segregation activities, visitors learnt about the importance of responsible waste management and hopefully adopt these practices in their daily lives. This can contribute to a cleaner environment, reduced pollution, and a more sustainable future.

Blackbucks are gregarious and social animals with herds generally ranging from 5 to 50 animals. The herds are harems, with a single adult male and a number of adult females and their young. They tend to be diurnal during the cool season. In the hot season, they are active in the very early morning and late afternoon, resting in the shade at other times. Because of past persecutions, blackbuck are very shy and wary. Their sense of smell and hearing are not highly developed so they rely on eyesight in detecting danger. When in danger, a single animal bounds in the air and is soon followed by the rest of the herd. These animals have great speed and endurance; when in danger they can maintain a gallop with a speed of 40mi/hr for approximately 15 miles. They are usually silent, but sometimes females give a hissing noise that warns the herd of danger.

Learn at the zoo!!!
