Cozumel Animal Sanctuary Heal a Horse was founded in 2001 to help those who have no voice. We rescue horses, dogs, cats and many other beings.

ts which help horse keepers give a better and dignified treatment to their horses. When we started in 2001 people fed pig food to their horses. We had to import it from the continent. Great things happen when we put our hearts into it. Together we make changes and our biggest with now is to build a proper stable block, as the hones we have are thatched roof huts which we build at the beginning. Happy that is his name as he is a happy go lucky uncomplicated lad. His humans dumped him at a veterinarian clinic and just never came back for him. They asked us to help, now he lives happily at www.cozumelanimalsanctuary.org We give them a home, but need you to help with donations for food, flea and tick medicine, deworming etc. Please take the pledge and donate what ever you can monthly. More and more people are turning to us for help as no other place helps them. All our rescues have large enclosures where they are safe and can move around freely. Our Chechen, he was found tied to a tree abandoned to die as he was aggressive and dangerous they said. This proves that they just defend themselves from nasty people. When treated with love, he gave love. donations change lives!

And then there were three...

Chaka meets Chechen.

It was back in 2001 on a rainy October's day that we set out in search of our first rescue, after we received a phone call about an abandoned horse, soon after we were told that a mare had been seen in the same place. So off we went in hot pursuit.

By the time we got there, she was gone! She had been taken to a horse rental place, however when we got there the owner gave her to us. Chacah as we called her was Chechen’s wife and she was seven months pregnant.

On arrival we introduced her to Chechen from behind the fence to make sure that they indeed had been together. After a nose to nose session we realised that they were indeed a couple. We opened the gate and led her in. Chechen immediately bend his neck, raise his tail and started doing a little tantrum dance as if to say “Where the hell have you been?” Her answer was swinging on her front legs and gave him the two barrels! Chechen rolled on the floor...He got up shook and came to Chacah as if to say, I was just asking? never mind I’m glad you are here LOL.
