On Sunday, 19 May we will hold the very first Icelandic horse competition in New Zealand at Christchurch Icelandic Horses!
So no treks that day but anyone is welcome to come and watch! Bring your own seating and food (lunch provided for participants and members of IceHNZ)

Please note that no seating is available. If spectators would like to sit down, they are welcome to bring their own chairs. The lunch provided is for members only (soup & bread). Spectators will have to organise their own lunch.

Julia, Meya and Annjulie will be running our treks over the school holidays 🐴

Tomorrow will be Yasna Müller’s last day with us😞 We were incredibly lucky to have her help with training horses and giving riding lessons for the past 7 months.
Here you can see our first time at the beach last week with 4 yr olds Kímni from Ormaglade (sired by Atlas frá Hjallanesi) on the left and Prímus from Christchurch Icelandic Horses (sired by Prins Valíant frà Púfu í Kjós) on the right. Yasna has started both of them and I am very happy with how well they are both going🤩

Last week we said goodbye to Svala who has returned to her first owner. Svala was with us for the past 5 years and many loved this sweet little mare who just kept going no matter what. She will be missed by many but I am sure she will enjoy a much more relaxed life now. Thank you Svala for bringing joy to so many of our clients!

Today I invited the foals for the first time to come and say hello to me. We don’t interact or cuddle our foals in the first few weeks so they keep a natural respect for us humans. But with about 10 weeks old it’s time to start getting them used to a halter so we can worm them and give them their first tetanus shot.

There is no cost for our Open Day.
All welcome to have a look at our horses, have a chat and some refreshments.
If you want to try one of our horses you have to have intermediate riding experience and weigh less than 90kg.
We are looking forward to meeting you!

Finally we have names for 3 week old Elsti and 1 week old Lína😊
Thanks to Yasna Müller for coming up with „Elsti“, meaning „the oldest“. This name has now been approved and added to the official list of Icelandic horse names on World Fengur, the international studbook for Icelandic horses.👏

The day has finally come - we have moved our premises to 870 Lower Styx Rd!
To celebrate this milestone and the past 11 years since starting Christchurch Icelandic Horse Treks we will have an Open Day on Sunday, 19 November from 11am til 3pm.
Come and have a look at our new set up and our horses. There will be food and drinks and experienced riders will have a chance for a short trial of one of our horses on the oval track🥳

I am very happy with my new roper girths from Cinches Down Under. They are made to order, you can choose colours, length, etc.
I might finally have the answer to avoid chafing for some of my horses who are ridden a lot. Thank you Margy!

Some brave American, Australian and Kiwi horse lovers went on a very Icelandic adventure today- and loved every minute👍Even the two seals hadn’t expected any visitors on a day like this and quickly made for the sea! Thanks for the ride guys😊
