My life has evolved around horses, I have worked at a breeding farm and trained many warmblood horses for dressage, eventing and jumping. We came to NZ to live our lifes to the fullest bringing our gorgeous dutch warmblood horses with us. standing at stud is our Appleton DHU being pride and joy for us along with his progeny. I love training horses, problem solving and bringing them to the next lev

I love giving people confidence in their horse and themselves, bringing them too to the next level. and paring up humans with their soulmate, one of Appleton's progeny. and to top all that, enjoy the beach for a nice canter or swim or stroll... come and ride in our all weather arena, build dec 2015.

do you want to see if your horse can fly?? sunday 11 august DHU having a free jumping session.... wether your horse can jump a cross or bigger all by himself... it is a great excercise for your horse and you get to see what a champ he/she is.... now the horse free jumping on this picture is Appleton DHU... my boy... who truly can fly :) 40$ per horse for about half hour... pm me to book...see you sunday!🦄💗🥰

Had a lovely awards dinner for the DCD last night...catching up with horsey friends...gummy and i got a coaster for best in level 6...and i got the sportsmanship award this year...so I have been nice sometimes??😜😘 thanks heaps ❤👍🎯🐎 lets have a fab competition season people!🎯🐎

we are running our ever popular Childrens Bootcamp coming up in the school holiday's, we do everything....it is bootcamp after all ;) cleaning your stable and horse.... vaulting, pole dancing, jumping, egg and spoon race, dressage, practicing a test, and ofcours...going to the forest and beach... so so much fun to be had! come join us, limited spaces available. 150$ per day from 9 to 4 :) 💗🥰🥳🦄 super good to build confidence and have fun...ages aprox 8 to 15

tomorow, sunday 16 June I am putting up the free jumping lane :) yes, this is Appleton DHU showing his amazing jump.... however.... we all start small, poles on the ground, crosses and work our way up...amazing to see our horses being so very capable to jump by themselves... would you like to see what your horse can do? book a spot...about 30 minutes... 40$ .... 🦄💗

My last lesson of the day asked for a forest ride instead...needed to relax, she felt a bit stressed....oh my.. the best ride with a beautiful sunset....equine therapy in nature....👍👍🎯💖🐎

What a weekend we have had...i got my new boots the day before comp day...cant walk in them..but hey they are for riding😜🥰 then skylar and Anna came along to be runners for the show🎯 i hope they did a good job😊👍i had 3 major brainfarts in my first test...so a big E....next test 6b went lovely sooo happy...got some good pirouette scores and nearly nailed my changes...nearly😜 then today 6c...gummy had suffered a kick to his leg...swollen a bit but not too bad...so still rode him...he did hood but was sooo tired...we lost a bit of rythm here and there...but...yippie..we got 3 clean changes every 3 stride!!! Thank you Holly Leach for kicking my ass into gear.. first time ever i could actually count the strides! Yesss....thank you DCD for running such a lovely show🥰🎯👍 thank you Sloane Wallace and Susan Philp for being my cheerleaders😂🤣😘

hi there everyone, we have another 2 dates for the kids bootcamp this holiday, it will be the 15th April and the 25 th of April... we have 2 spots left in both :) 150$ per day from 9 am to 4 pm. we will be doing dressage, pole dancing, a bit of voltige, forest and beach permitting level of riders :) child must be confident off the lead and walk and trot... lunch included :)

Our Story

a bit of history;

The Dutch riding tradition in New Zealand

Nicole Bours was taught the traditional way of Dutch riding by her riding-school cavalry-instructor when she was young. This very strict and proper method gave her the basis on which her riding and training was developed.

After moving to the US, she rode for the Deep South Dressage Association and was invited by the American gold medallist colonel Howard Morris to stay in training to prepare for the Olympics. As her husband from that time was to be stationed in Japan, she declined and followed to Okinawa, where she was invited to teach at the Olympic development facilities in Naha to help for the Seoul Olympic Team. She stayed there as an instructor/trainer until 1998, when she returned to the US.

In 2001 she moved back to the Netherlands. Due to several back injuries, she only trained a limited number of horses there. However, she travelled regularly to Rome where she gave horse riding instruction at various show jumping stables, mostly for Grand Prix riders, emphasizing the importance of dressage in show-jumping.

Now in New Zealand, Nicole gives horse riding instruction to riders from different disciplines at different levels. The leading principle of Nicole's training method is that a happy horse is willing to work for the rider, and as long as it stays happy, it continues to do so. Therefore forwardness and gentle hands are the basics on which the horse's trust is built.
