This poor cat who was hit by a car this morning was immediately rushed and surrendered by a good samaritan to the clinic. No one knows the owner of this cat.

If you have any information who own this cat or if you are the owner of this cat please pm or txt us.

X-ray and other laboratory tests are recommended. No matter what the results, we will give this cat a fighting chance.

‼️ ATTENTION PET OWNERS ‼️

Canine Distemper is prevalent nowadays and as a responsible pet owner, we need to be fully aware and be informed about this deadly disease of our canine friends and how we can prevent them from contracting the virus.

Here's a short read on what distemper is that might save your dog's life.

WHAT IS DISTEMPER?
📌 It is a highly contagious viral disease that affects the entire body of dogs caused by Canine Distemper Virus

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS/SYMPTOMS OF DISTEMPER?
📌fever, lethargy, and loss of appetite
📌eye discharge (muta)
📌thickened and hardened nose and footpads
📌Respiratory signs: nasal discharge (sipon), pneumonia
📌Gastrointestinal signs: diarrhea
📌Neurologic signs: muscle twitching, seizure

HOW IS CANINE DISTEMPER SPREAD?
📌Inhalation/airborne exposure of/to the virus from an infected dog

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT?
📌According to American Veterinary Medical Association, there is no cure to distemper, only supportive treatment.
✅Supportive care (IV fluids, nutrition, etc.)
✅Broad-spectrum antimicrobials (to prevent secondary infections)
✅Antipyretics, analgesics, and anticonvulsants
‼️ The treatment of neurologic problems of distemper is usually not successful

HOW CAN WE PREVENT THE SPREAD OF DISTEMPER?
✅VACCINATION
✅If the dog is suspected or confirmed to be infected with the virus, isolate the dog immediately

HOW CAN I PROTECT MY DOG FROM DISTEMPER?
✅Complete the initial core vaccines for puppies and booster vaccines for adult dogs
✅Avoid bringing your puppies in places where dogs gather especially if their vaccine is incomplete
✅Avoid contact with distemper infected dogs

Remember, prevention is better than cure 🐾
