Monica's Heart Greyhound Adoption

Monica's Heart Greyhound Adoption PLEASE READ "ADDITIONAL INFORMATION " As many of you know by now, Monica’s Heart will cease adoptions at the end of 2020. Thanks retired racers and brood mamas.
(24)

Since our inception in 1996, we have placed over with 1,700 retired racers. It has been a wonderful 24 years working with you and with these beautiful, elegant creatures. We will still take in dogs that need to be returned, and will be on hand if you have questions or concerns. We have found homes for almost 1,700 dogs, and most foster folks will agree that we have fallen in love with your furkids

before introducing them to you. There has been success and heartache, laughter and tears, hours and hours of work – meeting haulers in the middle of the night, and then bathing them before bringing them home, taking them to the vet for various services, changing bandages and giving meds, and meeting to move dogs on to other foster homes. There has also been tears over “letting them go” when we would have liked to keep another dog, but adopting them out when “the right home” came along. We will be working with our board and will consult an attorney about dissolving the organization. Therefore, we are no longer soliciting donations after our current raffle. The last newsletter will be issued in December, therefore there will be no dues solicitation. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of the Monica’s Heart organization – board members, foster people, volunteers, meet and greet organizers, fundraisers. We are also deeply thankful for the veterinarians that worked with us over the years. We sincerely appreciate all of your efforts on behalf of our successes. I believe that Monica Joyce would be very proud of what we have accomplished in her name., too, to the owners/trainers who have enabled us to find homes for their

Please do not hesitate to contact us, now or in the future, should you have any questions or concerns about your adopted greyhound or in regards to returning one of our adopted dogs that you can no longer care for. We will be on hand for as long as is needed for all of our adopted dogs. Altoona area: Kay: 814-942-3145

In addition, Dr. Mason will discuss ways in which our GreyT community can get involved in helping us find better treatment options for this disease. There will be an update on the research Dr. Mason is currently conducting at the University of Pennsylvania. A live Q&A will follow the webinar.

UPDATE: Greyhound Pets of America - Minnesota (GPA-MN)
·
These two dogs have been delivered safely into the hands of experienced foster homes with our greyhound adoption organization in MN. We are grateful to the Crookston Police Dept, and Polk County Sheriff's Office, as well as the pet shelter who kept them safe and held them while awaiting possible contact from owners. We invite you to follow our page for future updates on these two sweet dogs. 🖤🖤

Good advice on getting vaccines for your pets!

Good advice on getting vaccines for your pets!

Vaccine reactions can happen, and when we bombard a pet’s immune system with 6 different things at once, the chances of an adverse reaction increase. The safest interval between immunizations is about 3 weeks. Sometimes a combination vaccine is unavoidable, but you can ensure that it is given by itself when your pet is healthy, and not while under anesthesia.

Signs of a reaction may include:
- pain at the injection site
- fever
- lethargy
- lameness
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- anaphylactic reaction
- hives
- swelling
- tumor formation
- shock
- death

🛑 If you think your pet is suffering from a vaccine reaction call your vet immediately.

Side effects usually start appearing a couple of hours after the shot, but they can also take days, and even years, to appear. The most severe reactions are generally apparent within a few minutes.
Most cases of vaccine reactions are never reported to manufacturers and many are never reported to the veterinarian administering the vaccine. This contributes to the narrative that they’re universally safe and can be given needlessly.

MONICA’S HEART WISHES EVERYONE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Pictured are my Santa Dogs, Miss Sydney, Mr. Sunny and Miss Brodie. The most uncooperative Santa Dogs I’ve ever had!! One didn’t want to get out of bed and the other two wouldn’t lift their head!!
Please feel free to post pictures of your greyhounds. They DO NOT have to be Christmas pictures.💖
