Last set of shoes I had scheduled to put on before I start Vet School! And I'm very happy with how they turned out.

The time has come, I am moving to Amarillo and will no longer be in the DFW area full time. Current clients, you know what is up, I hope I have been clear in communicating with you guys over the last few months and I will continue to do so moving forward!
To anyone not currently on my books from the DFW area, I apologize but I am no longer taking new clients! I will be in Amarillo for the next 3 years at the Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine.
I want to thank all my clients, current, past for over 10 years of a wonderful career in this region and I hope to see many of you for many more years and perhaps in a new capacity!
As always, feel free to reach out with any questions!

While I was down for the count with a flare up of my allergies/sinus infection today, I did manage to get some horses done in the last week. Hoping I wake up tomorrow ready to get back out there! The clock is winding down to when I will be off to Vet School!

This sweet mare came onto my book with some pretty severely under-run heels and broken back angles. I suspected it was severe enough to possibly have led to a flat or negative palmar angle but that wasn't confirmed with radiographs. I wish I had more pictures of the very start and in-between as the "before" were still an improvement over where we had started! I just trimmed and reset her shoes last week and was blown away with how much better she looks! Her heels are returning to their normal, healthy, position, she is able to comfortably stand square over her feet, and her heel bulbs are up off the ground!
All it takes is some good, routine hoofcare, proper nutrition and time!

I have some exceptionally exciting news to share! I have been accepted to Texas Tech University's School of Veterinary Medicine!
It has always been my dream to one day become a veterinarian and I have worked hard over the last 10 years toward the dream! While this is a brand new chapter for me, it is not the end of my farrier career!
As I have discussed with many of my active clients already, I have a couple plans of action in mind so all of my clients' and their horses' needs continue to be met.
I will be continuing services as usual through AT LEAST July 1st 2023 as I am planning on moving to Amarillo in early July to get settled.
My HOPE is to help any client wishing to have a more local farrier find someone who can continue to provide excellent care. I am also planning on coming back into the area to both see family and work on horses as possible throughout my school semesters. This may become limited to certain clients based on geography and there will be some other limitations as Vet School will have to come first!
I want to thank everyone for their allowing me the privilege of being their farrier all these years and I hope to continue providing high quality care to horses as my role changes!
As usual, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to call, text or message me!

I love getting to help horses get their hooves back under them! This sweet broodmare cleaned up well today and we have a solid plan for her moving forward. Amazing what a difference a quick trim can make!

I had the absolute pleasure of working with a 4th year vet student before they started their equine clinical rotation! Montana was my fantastic model pony for the student to practice pulling shoes, trimming and bandaging a foot!! The future of vet med is so bright with such a motivated student almost done with their training!!

Merry Christmas to all my wonderful clients!

With warmer weather coming day-by-day, and no major disasters at my house (Thank goodness!) I am planning on getting back to work this coming week. At this point, I am just going to pick up where I had to leave off two weeks ago and just keep marching on. If I can get fully caught up and keep the whole book from being off schedule, I will!
As always, feel free to give me a call or send me a FB message if you have any questions!

I WILL NOT BE WORKING THE REST OF THIS WEEK AND WEEKEND:
After the news of the Multi-car Pile Up that resulted in fatalities in Ft. Worth this morning, I have decided the roads are just too unsafe for myself and my clients to be out on! This is going to result in a bit of a back-up of appointments but I am much more concerned about everyone's safety out on the roads than the ponies going an extra few days over schedule!
Not to mention the Artic Air has not even made it to us yet and the wind chills are going to be dangerously low in the coming days. No one needs to be out in this, whether we are working in a barn or not!
Stay home, Stay Warm, Stay Safe!
02/10/2021
Oh boy! Winter isn't done with us yet! I had a schedule built for the end of this week, but it does not look like good shoeing weather. I will be in touch with folks on an individual basis about getting horses done or waiting. My first concern is ALWAYS safety! The roads are going to be risky and it is going to be COLD.
π₯Άπ₯Άπ₯Ά It's a bit chilly outside and the next week is only going to get worse!
β‘οΈ Remember protection from wind and wet π§π§ is key to keeping horses warm.
β‘οΈ Monitor and encourage water intake using soaked mashes, tank heaters, heated buckets, and breaking up surface ice frequently
β‘οΈ Older horses, thin horses, and the very young horses are most likely to develop complications from cold weather and lack of water intake
β‘οΈ Waterproof blankets and sheets can help conserve energy and body heat. Warm horses will drink chilly water!
βββ Call at the first sign of issues. Early intervention is the key to success! 903-564-1175 and follow the prompts.

The first "before" was not my work.

I want to personally thank all of my clients for how amazing everyone has been thus far in 2020. This unprecedented time has thrown everyone a lot of curve balls and change.
I have personally been struggling with my mental health, and my depression and anxiety have been making it difficult to be as responsive, prompt and consistent as I have prided myself on being through out my career.
I am working on some solutions to get back with on the ball but I wanted to thank everyone, from of the bottom of my heart, for being so flexible and understanding.
I couldn't have made it this far without y'all.
Here is to the downhill slide to the end of the year and the start of the Holiday Seasons!
09/06/2020
ATTENTION ALL CLIENTS:
I will be out of town and unavailble from September 6th until September 10th.
I will NOT have my phone with me as this is a birthday/mental health trip and I'm out of state.
I can still be reached via Facebook. I will return all missed texts/phone calls Thursday afternoon when I'm home!
Have a great week!

It is Christmas in July for this farrier! I am loving this 90 degree day after weeks of nasty, humid and hot. It was so pleasant while I was working on this awesome, ranch gelding

I had a very exciting case come onto my book last week! "Twitch" the yearling buck needed some help on his front end correcting some deformed hooves. We were able to get him more comfortable and start working on straightening him out!

Happy Fly Season!
Now that the weather is warm and staying that way the flies have arrived! Not to mention it seems Moonsoon season here in North Texas is giving way to to longer stretches of dry weather and the ground has hardened up. The combination of stomping flies and hard ground can reek havoc on your horse's hooves and loosen shoes.
Fly control is an important part of hoof maintaince and will help prevent lost and prematurely worn out shoes!
A few steps you can do to help combat the pesky flies are:
-Regularly use Fly Spray, Fly repelling oil , feed through supplements or fly repelling leg bands
-Rotate Fly Spray(or other topicals) brands (using kinds with different active ingredients) every few weeks to combat resistance
-Keep paddocks, stalls and barns clean and mature properly spred or stored away from paddocks and barns
-Use physical barriers such as Fly Boots
-Use appropriate paremeter Fly Sprays around barns and lean-tos(per listed instructions)
-Utilize natural predators to combat flies (such as Fly Predator brand products) if appropriate for your facility.
Your horse and Farrier will thank you!!

COVID-19 UPDATE: As more counties are enacting "Shelter-in-Place" I am re-evaluating my activites. I wish to not only continue service but also contribute to the effort to slow the spread and flatten the curve. So I am asking ALL clients to help me in this mission of an over abundance of caution- we will get through this as a community!
Please Take a Moment to Read The Below Points:
>At this time, I am not taking ANY new clients.
>I am aiming to cut down on "non-essential" stops- owners, pick out your horses hooves well and determine if you feel they can wait. Growth this time of the year is variant- though starting to ramp up. FEEL FREE TO SEND ME A PICTURE IF YOU ARE UNSURE. Horses that CAN wait, will be given priority once the dust settles. However, if you feel a trim is necessary then it is ESSENTIAL.
>Please follow, to the best of your ability, social distancing or shelter-in-place reccomendations and handwashing to limit your risk of exposure and mine!
> Look into Venmo or PayPal as an alternative payment method to check or cash to limit physical contact and possible cross contamination!
>Notify me if you or ANYONE in your household is sick, not feeling well, or has been in contact in the past 2 weeks with someone sick. Or if you or ANYONE in your household or that you have had contact with in the last 14 days recently traveled internationally or from states with wide spread outbreaks.
>Only ONE person is to attend the appointment , they must be able to catch, clean and handle the horse! Anyone extra will need to remain in the car or away from us and my rig.
>Please maintain social distance at all times possible. It would be best if the horse can be tied instead of held, but we have to do what us safest in that moment.
> If possible, utilize my haul-in service in Whitesboro- especially for those at boarding facilities. My barn will be cleaned and sanitized between ALL clients.
>If financial difficulties due to COVID-19 related job changes would prevent essential service, reach out and I would be happy to work with you to the best of my ability.
MY NUMBER ONE PRIORITY IS THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF ALL MY CLIENTS, MY SELF, MY FAMILY AND THE COMMUNITY!
Missing a few weeks on the schedule will, for the average horse, not cause any harm.
As ALWAYS feel free to reach out with ANY questions.
Thank you,
Jessica

JUST A REMINDER: I do offer haul in services in Whitesboro which can be utilized by anyone who is wishing to limit coming-and-going onto their property. Owners will be allowed to unload their horses, tie them to the trailer, and wait in their trucks.
If you would like to schedule your appointment as a haul-in send me a message. Horses must have a current (within 1 yr) negative coggins, be UTD on core vaccines and be in good health for the safety of my home herd.

Thanks to the rain, Ive been "self quarantined" all week!
