The “Back” story

Back Street Kittens was founded by Teresa Kern in Duluth, Georgia in Feb. 2019. The inspiration for the rescue is (5) 7-week old, very sick feral kittens that she rescued from her backyard and then found that none of the local rescues were interested in helping them. After a couple vet trips and large vet bills, someone at her vet’s off
ice mentioned to her that with her background and experience, she should start a feral rescue. A couple of friends were invited to join the adventure and Back Street Kittens, Inc. was born.
We have been asked to take in this momma and her 3 kittens. Mom is friendly so she was probably left behind when people moved. We would love to help them but we do not have the money required to vet them. Each kitten/cat costs us about 200.00 for full vetting and that is if they aren't sick.
Donations have really been down this year so we are asking for your help to get this family off the streets. I will put donation links in the comments. Thank you for helping us help them!
The last pictures I took of Vin while he was a BSK. Right afterwords we completed his adoption! He is officially a BSK alumni. We love this little guy and are so happy for him. We will complete the adoption for his buddy Sneakers once he gets neutered.

but I was a baby and that was a long way off. We were best friends. Then you started packing, and I was excited, we were
going to go on an adventure. And then you were gone, and lam still here. It's cold. Are you coming back?
When you take on a pet, you are taking
on a life and a moral and legal
responsibility to take care of that life.

We started the weekend with a scare from Vin and are ending it with wonderful news. Vin and Sneakers are being adopted together! They will go to their "foster to adopt" home next Saturday.
UPDATE: Vin is home. Temp is 102. Bloodwork, urine and x-ray all normal. He got fluids, Onsior, convenia antibiotic, and an anti-viral that he will take twice a day until finished. I will monitor him tonite and take him back at 8:30 in the morning for a followup. He is definitely feeling better than he was this morning. He ate and used the litterbox when he got home. He is currently separated from the other cats and he is not happy about that.
2nd UpDate: His temperature was normal at his follow up appointment Sunday morning and he is acting like his normal kitten self. He is eating and playing and being the sweet Vin that we know and love! We still would appreciate donations to help with his vet bill. We have received a little over half of it from generous donors.
His bill was $610.00. If you can help us pay this, it would be greatly appreciated. A huge thank you to those that have donated. We have raised $332.00 towards his bill. If anyone would like to see the bill, please message the page and I will be happy to provide it.
Sweet Vin is sick. He stopped eating last night, is lethargic and has a fever of 105.1. He is at the vet this morning. We need help with funds to pay his bill and prayers for a full recovery. Had to share this. Unless you know a farmer/farm family you have no idea what goes into running a farm. Farming is a hard life and they don't get nearly the respect they deserve.
"Just a farmer" you said,
and I laughed cause I knew all the things that farmers must be able to do.
They must study the land, then watch the sky and figure just when is the right time and why.
To sow and to plant, to buy and to sell, to go to the market with cattle and well, you know the books that farmers must keep to pay all those taxes and be able to sleep.
And you know the fixin' that farmers must do when machines like mad monsters blow a gasket or two.
I guess when God needed folks to care for his earth he chose "just farmers" cause he knew their true worth

Check out our new little nugget. A customer where I work found him/her all alone under some bushes next to the road. They looked for other kittens and for a momma but found nothing. This little one will be friends with our little Vin

Driving home from work last night, I saw a cat outside the rebar company on Hosea Road. I stopped but the cat would not come to me. This morning, I stopped and talked to the supervisor Wayne. He says there are 5 cats that hang out at the business and he feeds them. 1 has been spayed but 1 male and 3 young females haven't been. 1 of them is pregnant. Because of his work hours, he is unable to get them anywhere for TNR. I told him who I was and that BSK would be happy to help him. We will provide the traps and I will transport either to Planned Pethood or Gwinnett County animal control and pick them up and return to him. He will be able to do recovery if we provide a crate which we are happy to do. I haven't seen the pregnant cat but she may be too far along for me to be able to in good conscience have a spay/abort done so we will be working on plans to take care of her and her kittens.

I was with both of my dogs when they died and I have been with all my kitties. As hard as it is to say goodbye, I would never leave them alone. I want them to hear and feel my love until their little spirit begins its journey to the Rainbow Bridge. Don't be a coward, stay with your furry family member!

The specialist answered without hesitation that it was the hardest for him to see how old or sick animals look for their owners with the eyes of their owners before going to sleep. The fact is that 90 % of owners don't want to be in a room with a dying animal. People leave so that they don't see their pet leave. But they don't realize that it's in these last moments of life that their pet needs them most.
Veterinarians ask the owners to be close to the animals until the very end. ′′It's inevitable that they die before you. Don't forget that you were the center of their life. Maybe they were just a part of you. But they are also your family. No matter how hard it is, don't leave them.
Dont let them die in a room with a stranger in a place they dont like. It is very painful for veterinarians to see how pets cannot find their owner during the last minutes of their life. They dont understand why the owner left them. After all, they needed their owner’s consolation.
Veterinarians do everything possible to ensure that animals are not so scared, but they are completely strangers to them. Don't be a coward because it's too painful for you. Think about the pet. Endure this pain for the sake of their sake. Be with them until the end.”

With Easter right around the corner, remember that plastic Easter basket grass (left) lasts forever in the environment, often ending up in bird's nests and our waterways. Opt for the crinkled paper version (right). It eventually biodegrades and is much safer. Or even better, make your own re-purposed paper Easter grass so you can skip the plastic packaging all together! 🐰🐣🌱
