"The temporary suspension of the import of dogs from high-risk rabies areas, instituted by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on July 14, 2021, will expire on July 31, 2024. Starting on August 1, the CDC will require all dogs entering the United States to have a Dog Import Form completed by their owners and filed prior to arrival in the US. Additional documentation will depend on the country in which the dog was vaccinated for rabies and the countries in which the dog has spent time in the six months prior to travel to the US."

There’s been some recent changes to the CDC’s importation policies:

“Starting on August 1, 2024, all dogs entering the United States must:

- Appear healthy upon arrival
- Be at least six months of age
- Be microchipped; and
- Be accompanied by a CDC Dog Import Form online submission receipt.

Additional requirements are based on where the dog has been in the last six months and whether or not the dog was vaccinated in the United States. For dogs arriving from countries with a high risk of dog rabies, they must be protected against rabies.”

For travel to Canada, we hope that paperwork will be made easier by something like the
Pet Passport used in Europe.

Everyone meet Cookie! One of our clients had seen this super sweet kitty roaming around in their yard for about a week and decided to bring them in to see if we could find their owner.

Thankfully Cookie had a microchip, and after some research we were able to find their family! Turns out Cookie had been lost for 2 months. But today they finally get to go home ❤️

This story really highlights the importance of microchipping; and goes to show how effective it is in reuniting lost pets with their family!
