Walter the Wonderpup learning to be a trick dog along with helping his person @thefriendineverwanted as a Service Dog in Training!
#earlyneurologicalstimulation
Walter (@whenimetwalt) went to his forever home yesterday. He is going to be a #psychiatricservicedog for @thefriendineverwanted. He loves his new mama and we couldn’t ask for a better future for this rambunctious fellow.
We can’t wait to see his training progress from states away with his new trainers and Nia.
This #wonderpup will be a superhero!
We’ve been working on “stay” at the threshold and the #wonderpups are doing AMAZING!
This really helps with impulse control and is super important to learn!
Mama Kenzie is in the corner and is being a really good example for her babies!
Benji is working hard and learning a lot about impulse control.
Here he is mastering a down with the temptation of the neighbor’s cat nearby.
What a good boy!
Walter (@whenimetwalt) is training for public access! He goes to his forever home where he gets to help his human in just a couple weeks - and he is ready!
He gets all kinds of feel good chemicals when we do training in a happy mood and he gets to eat all kinds of yummy food. He’s a rockstar at squeezing into tight spaces to stay out of the way, but still be close to his human.
Go Walter!
Bamba went to @twinsistersbrewingcompany yesterday to practice helping her person (@theshirarose) at restaurants and learning how to do unders for a long time. We ended up hanging out for over an hour and Bamba was calm, well-behaved, and even took a nap! At 12 weeks old, this is super impressive!
She really is a #wonderpuppy! ❤️🐶
This was from the #WonderPuppies first outing a couple weeks ago to Home Depot.
They practiced paying attention to their handlers with lots of new things around and even just visiting a new space. And they all did AMAZING (of course they did, they are Wonder Pups).
First outing to a store #homedepot ! The #wonderpuppies had stellar focus and were all able to do a down👏 Go #wonderpups you’re rocking it🤩
Mama Kenzie is playing with her #wonderpuppies on this beautiful spring day!
Having a role model dog around (like Kenzie) is an amazing experience for young puppies - especially future service dogs!
They learn early how to be calm, how to listen, and how to behave.
Seeing Mama play with these pups is such a good way to see the bond they have as a family. ❤️
Service dogs truly are a blessing.
Happy (Easter) Sunday!
The #wonderpuppies are waiting for a visit from the Easter bunny!
(And showing off their #manding skills)
It’s a puppy run!
The #WonderPuppies are starting to explore outside more and more.
They are all so bold with experiencing new textures and scents and things! All these are great signs for public access training.
It means that they are getting used to sounds, scents, and textures which means they will be less likely to be spooked by new and scary noises or objects in the world!
As the #wonderpuppies grow, they start to play more.
Over the past week, they’ve been playing more and more. Including with each other (tugging ropes and wrestling). This means that they will be able to play with other dogs and are getting very social.
.
Today the puppies are 5 weeks old! Their personalities are starting to really show and we are starting to be able to see who will make excellent service dogs and who will make amazing emotional support dogs.
The #wonderpuppies are getting more and more playful and more and more loving. They are interested more and more in people and playing.
.
All the puppies are bred to be either Service Dogs, Therapy Dogs, or ESAs. Unfortunately, not all dogs can be service dogs, but all these pups will have the base training to be able to learn tasks and, at least, provide love and companionship to their humans.
.
It can be hard to find service dog (in training) puppies - let alone puppies that will have the level of training these sweet babies will have.
.
Not all the Wonder Puppies have been spoken for - if you or someone you know may be interested or in need of a service dog, please reach out and we can talk about whether the Wonder Puppies will be a good fit for you!
At just over 3 weeks, the #wonderpuppies are getting closer to weaning. We are aiming for about 4 weeks, but we are starting to feel some sharp puppy teeth coming in, so the puppies have started to experiment with different foods. This is goats milk! (Which is easier to digest than dairy milk)
Experimenting with foods is a good way to determine who is “food motivated” which is something that makes training - especially intense brain training for service dogs - easier. Cause super high value treats make it more fun to learn new tasks!
The #wonderpuppies feeding races! We instructed Kenzie to lay down and then watched the puppies make their way over to her. This is a really interesting way to see their problem solving skills (Beijo and Romeo had to figure out how to reach her nipples from her chest) and their scenting ability (Esme and Keifer made their way over pretty quickly). Look at them go (and grow)!
The #wonderpuppies are starting to wobble-walk the last couple days! Things move so quickly in these first few weeks, that soon they’ll be running and playing!
.
In this video, Esme is walking on this surface for the first time and she is unphased! This is a type of ENS to help get those fresh little paws used to new sensations! She also marched right over to a new sound (scratching on the pad to get her attention) which is such a great indicator of a service dog! Unafraid! We also have a new descriptor for Esme - relentless!
At 2 weeks old (!!!) the #wonderpuppies are starting to crawl their way over to Mama Kenzie for some milk. We get to experiment with puppy races - which means we tell Kenzie to lay down in the whelping box and then see how long it takes for all the puppies to smell her and make their way over to eat! It’s a really interesting way to see their problem solving skills (Arrow likes to crawl under her legs rather than go around) and who has a strong nose (Romeo moves to eat pretty quickly!).
#wonderpuppies Day 10: both Arrow and Titus opened their eyes a little today! It’s normal for puppies to start opening their eyes between day 10-14 - so we have some early bloomers! They’ve also started to be more independent and don’t need to sleep in the puppy pile as often. As we see their independence grow, we’ll start to see which Wonderpuppy will make good therapy dogs and which will be excellent service dogs. ❤️🐶
Spectacular alert Kenzie! 🤩60 is your person’s low marker!! She first alerted me and that prompted Ed to check! #wonderpup #livesaver #goldenretrieverservicedog
