I am sorry to report that the Animal Emergency Clinic will be CLOSED TONIGHT Tuesday September 17. We will NOT be accepting transfer patients. ALL patients will be referred to the U of I. We encourage everyone to let their clients know that we will be closed. A Facebook update will be posted shortly to share.

The Animal Emergency Clinic hopes to return to normal business hours and operations on Wednesday, September 17. Thank you for your patience.

Reminder!!! This is the LAST DAY to get meds for fireworks if you are a client and if your pet is scared of loud noises. We will be closed tomorrow for Fourth of July and have already received several calls for medication. The sooner you call, the better! Everyone have a happy safe Fourth of July!

Announcement:

Hey clients! We are changing our appointment scheduling policy. It is important that we utilize our appointment slots efficiently, as we are usually pushing new appointments out about a month, and many clients want in sooner. We have had several no call/no show/rescheduled appointments in the past few months. In order to make sure we have fewer canceled or no show appointments, we will be implementing a policy that after a certain number of infractions, may require a deposit to hold your appointment slot. Please understand this policy is only meant to help us get pets in sooner by reducing the amount of canceled or no show appointments. Our time is important and so is yours. We appreciate your understanding.

April is heartworm awareness month! If you think heartworm disease is not an issue for us in Illinois, think again. The incidence of heartworm positive dogs is ever increasing and moving into northern states. Just look at the difference in the maps between 2010 and 2022. Heartworm disease causes devastating life long effects even if treated, so prevention is the best, easiest, and most cost efficient option! We recommend heartworm preventative year round for every dog of every lifestyle with any coat type. Give us a call if you have questions on heartworm prevention or need any refills!

ANNOUNCEMENT:

Our doctors will be out of office unexpectedly tomorrow and Friday (11/30 and 12/1). The office will still be open for medication refills and to assist you if you have questions regarding your pet but we will not be seeing any patients that require doctors exams. We sincerely hope this does not cause any inconveniences and thank you for your understanding.

Happy veterinary technician week! This week we are celebrating our veterinary assistants who we would be lost without! Our 4 full time vet assistants all received tshirts with their pets on them this morning. I think we found their new uniform! We appreciate everything they do, they are the unsung heroes of our office. Feel free to thank them for all their hard work if you see them this week!

Happy Friday! IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1) APPOINTMENTS: We are still heavily backed up on appointments and our next available is currently in November. Please keep this in mind, we have started sending reminders earlier, but if you know your pets will be due before the end of the year, give us a call to set something up.

2)BOARDING: As a reminder, we are eliminating boarding services-this includes holidays such as Thanksgiving. This is an early reminder to let you know so that you can make arrangements if you plan on being out of town during the holidays. We apologize for any inconvenience!

Important announcement!

Dear clients, we work hard to provide you with high quality veterinary care. If you are calling to make a non-emergent or routine appointment, we are booked out about 2 months from any given date. Please consider this when scheduling your pets for vaccinations. We are even busier during the summer, on top of making sure our staff takes much deserved time off, and our doctors get the rest they need to be present with each and every patient. We are truly apologetic that we can’t squeeze everyone in for vaccines sooner, but we believe quality is more important than quantity, and we try to make sure to save time for sick pets or pets with emergencies. Our priorities will always be those who need urgent care and making sure we continue to provide quality care and not overbook or overrun our staff. We understand that this is different than years in the past. Veterinary medicine is changing, and we are trying to keep up so that we can be here for you and your pets for years to come. Thank you all for your continued support and understanding. We are all doing our best!

Thanksgiving boarding announcement:

We will not be taking any boarding reservations for the day of thanksgiving (11/24) as we continue to move away from being a boarding facility. This is a reminder to our clients as we are moving to prioritize veterinary medicine and sick patients. We would not be able to do this without the many excellent boarding facilities in our area, so please remember to make arrangements for your pets if you’re a long time boarder with us. We are so sorry for the inconvenience this may cause and as always appreciate your understanding. We hope that everyone enjoys their holiday (including our hard working staff)!

Happy Friday! The best girl Junie came in the other day. She is not sedated in this video! She is an almost 6 month old Frenchie that just loves life no matter where she’s at. We can’t always expect patients to be this relaxed at our office but we try our best to make them comfortable. Hope you all find some relaxation like Junie this weekend!

Work on your pets with nail trims! Start early and make touching the feet a positive experience with treats or pets! Then get them used to the feeling of the clippers on their toenails. Taking small bits of nail until you feel comfortable with trimming. Overall make it a happy/non traumatic experience and you will find it easier in the future or it will make it easier for us when we do it for you! If you accidentally quick your dog, you can always use cornstarch or flour and place it on the nail to help the body stop that bleeding. Keep in mind you may do everything right and your pet still hates it. It’s ok! Sometimes nature takes over nurture. There are anti-anxiety meds and other options we can sometimes prescribe for these animals. Ask us next time you’re in! Not all dogs lay down and enjoy the sunshine like Dr Riegler’s dog, Zeus, do for nail trims, but the less traumatic it is for our pets, the better! (Trimming nails in the position is probably the easiest if your pet is ok with it!). It’s easier to see the quick and prevent bleeding.
