High energy/high anxiety dogs can be some of the most frustrating to work with. But, they can also be the most rewarding when you finally see the change “click.”
If you are having similar behavioral issues with your furry friends, send us a message or an email!
Before
Repetition and consistency.
These are two terms that I always preach to my training clients. It doesn’t matter what breed of dog that you have or what their drive level is; repetition and consistency are always going to be two of your biggest factors for success.
This is Chip, one of my board and train clients. As you can see, he extremely high drive and has a fair amount of kennel anxiety. He has done extremely well with his basic obedience lessons, but his kennel anxiety has been a struggle over the last two weeks. Today, like usual, we worked on the kennel anxiety and some basic manners at the end of his first session.
Today, we saw a huge change from the beginning to the end. He’s starting to understand the expectation and knows that he will be rewarded for good behavior.
The video before is from the beginning of our session.
Lastly, we have Vader, my senior. He is 14 months old and has wonderful manners. He looked a little rusty today and we had to step back just a bit after a month off. But, he’s also the most diverse and even knows a couple of “tricks.”
Enjoy your warm Sunday afternoon!

Ahsoka is my wild one. She likes to jump and act crazy a lot, so we are working on manners and heeling. When she’s focused, she’s a lot of fun to work. She’s only 10 months old and still has a lot of room to grow, physically and mentally.

After a month away from my dogs (all four of them), we are spending the day doing some touch-up training. Delta here is in the beginning stages of drive building and protection implementation at 12 weeks old. If she displays the nessecary drive, she will be imprinted as an explosive detection dog in the future.
Consistency, consistency, consistency!
We took a weekend trip and were away from our pups and the kennel for the weekend. But, one of the first things I did upon our return was get our dogs out for a training session. Vader has come a long way and still has plenty of room and drive for improvement.
Make your training fun, keep the dog engaged with you, and don’t forget to allow them to make the choice to focus on you.
Reward and reinforce good behavior and ignore and redirect undesirable behavior.
Start with constant rewarding and then as they progress in their training, transition to variable rewarding.
Most importantly, have fun yourself!

Today was Duece’s second session with us and boy does he like to work. Deuce is very treat driven, which makes his sessions easy and enjoyable for all of us. Our focus today was dialing in his leash walking and setting the expectation for his placement beside his owner. We also worked on “coming when called”’or the “here” command with an emphasis on an automatic sit. Teaching your dog to automatically sit in front of you when called is a great way to help mitigate excessive jumping, as it shows them how to properly approach you.
Great job to Andrea and Duece! I look forward to our next session.
