Welcome to BVH, Angel!
We closed out our day with a breed that we are fairly sure we have never had in the clinic before. Anyone care to guess what sweet Xola is?
Hint - they come coated and non coated
We apologize for the poor video quality but we are so excited about our foster cat, Lyrics, makeover status. When Lyric came in March at an extremely obese 19 pounds she had a very pronounced limp in her right leg and could not walk across a room without lying down to rest. Now with her joint supplements, monthly Solensia injections, and being down to 16.6 pounds she comes trotting to greet staff members arriving for work in the morning. It’s an amazing difference. Lyric is adoptable through Harvest Hills Animal Shelter in Fryeburg.
We had a litter of kittens and a litter of puppies today. That does not happen very often!
This is our “Good Vibes Wall”. Every time you guys fill out a survey and write nice comments they are printed (anonymously) and hung here for the team to see. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to send something back. It is very uplifting for the team to take moment here on those inevitably sad or stressful days working in veterinary medicine.
This article says there is potential of some mislabeled Advantage for cats that may be K9 Advantix. Advantix is toxic to cats. If you use these products, please carefully read the labels to make sure products and sizes are appropriate.
A South Paris resident is warning pet owners to doublecheck their flea medication after her 1-year-old kitten suffered severe side effects.
Just a reminder that this is the last week we are accepting applications for a part time evening kennel position. Please read the details in the attached post. If you are interested please email Erin, the practice manager, [email protected]
Welcome to BVH little Miss Gracie!
A fabulous Lyric update! Lyric is our makeover foster cat. She arrived to Bridgton Vet. 6 months ago now, at a very obese 19 pounds. This weight was causing some severe challenges with her mobility, which was also causing some issues with her skin as she was unable to groom at all. We started her on pain management with Solensia, joint support with Cosequin and 1-tdc, and a strict diet with Purina OM. We are so happy to report that Lyric weighed in at 16.75 pounds today, she is once again able to keep herself clean, and can now jump up into our rocking chair without even using the ottoman first! She is doing amazingly well.
Though the staff here love her dearly we do think she deserves to retire into a comfortable home for her last few years. If you might be able to take in this sweet senior citizen and keep up with her arthritis maintenance, please reach out to Harvest Hills Animal Shelter.
Elmer was very relaxed for his pedicure today.
We thought we might start your day with a bit of cuteness! Huck came in for his first appointment yesterday and charmed everyone in the hospital.
Out last appointment of the day was Foxy, she was making good efforts to convince Dr Wheeler that beards are in and he should grow one too.
Sadly our evening kennel attendant Libby is headed back to college at the end of the month.
This means we have an opening for a part time kennel attendant. This position is 3:30 to 6:30 three nights a week, plus every third Sunday. There is opportunity for more hours filling in for vacations and sick days. Responsibilities include evening feeding and walking of the boarding animals and helping with the close down of the hospital at the end of the day. There is a lot of cleaning and solo work with this position. If you might be interested in this position please e-mail the practice manager, Erin, with your interest and work history. [email protected]
We had a new kitten this morning and he’s pretty darn handsome. Welcome to BVH Henry!
Onyx gets the best tail award today! Perfect circle.
If you are coming to Leah's Book Fair and Bake Sale at BVH on Sunday, the BVH staff will be dressed in peach. Thank you to Conroy Creations for helping us put these shirts together so quickly.
Haku was as sweet as they come today. He was actually giving out kisses during his blood draw.
7 days until Leah’s Book Fair and Bake Sale Fundraiser at BVH.
This is a video of Leah from 5 years ago that one of our other employees had show up in her snapchat memories.
In an industry well known to struggle with high turnover we are very proud that Leah has been with BVH for very close to twenty years now. We have seen her happily roll around on the floor with new puppies or kittens and almost as many times as we have seen her stoically sit beside clients as they make those harder decisions at the other end of their pets life, offering any support they might need. Let’s not forget all the appointments in between!
Leah has worked hard for the BVH community during her career and man is the BVH community rallying around her now! The food, the books, the art, the gift cards, and your time, have all been offered in abundance. This has begun to feel like celebration of the work Leah has put in, as well as a way to assist her with her medical bills from the health issues that have plagued her over the last few years. The BVH staff is looking forward to this event next Sunday August 4th 11-2. We hope to see many of you there.
Sometimes it’s really great to get together as a team outside of work. One of our favorite night outs over the years has become Paint Your Pet at the Painted Turtle in Harrison. If you have never been there we definitely suggest you check it out. Even if you are not artsy, they help you every step of the way.
Check out the happy face on sweet Sunny B!
Lily came by for a visit today, and the staff really enjoyed her. Any guesses on what this fully grown Yorkshire Terrier might weight?
Welcome to BVH, Bentley!
Mr. Kirby was a total ham for his appointment this morning. He put a smile on everyones face
Welcome to BVH Miss Eloise! The staff loves you already. 🧡
Hey everyone just another reminder that we are significantly consolidating our parasite prevention products. For dogs we will be carrying Nexgard Plus the all in one internal amd external preventative. For those who purchase OTC flea and tick prevention such as Seresto collars we will be carrying Interceptor Plus for heartworm prevention. For cats we will be carrying the all in one Nexgard Combo.
If you wish to continue on Heartgard, Nexgard, or Bravecto all of those products are available to order through our online store.
If you have been bringing your pets to Bridgton Vet. for any length of time, there is a good chance you have met Leah Haney. Having worked at BVH full time since April of 2005, Leah is our senior employee and she means a lot to the team. Leah has always been a hard working and dependable employee who strives to provide the best care and support she can to our patients and clients alike.
What many don’t know is in late 2021 and early 2022, Leah quietly took on breast cancer. She went through a double mastectomy and radiation with a strength and determination that impressed us all. Unfortunately, it seems that Leah’s fight with cancer may not be over. She is scheduled for another surgery very soon to remove her uterus as the doctors think there is now a chance she may have endometrial cancer.
The first round of surgery and treatment did leave Leah with a fair amount of medical debt, we know that adding the cost of another surgery to that is weighing hard on her, and the potential of another cancer and needing further treatment could add to that total as well. This time we would like to do a bit of fundraising to help Leah take a chunk out of these medical costs and hopefully ease a bit of her stress.
Rhonda Bibeau (aka Leah’s Mom) of Simply Quilted in Raymond, is a very talented artist with fabric. She has gifted BVH with this stunning decorative (41x42inch) purple orchid quilt, that we will be raffling off. Tickets are available now at two for $5.00 or five for $10.00. 100% of the proceeds of this raffle will go toward Leah’s medical expenses. Winner will be drawn at a fundraising event we will host in early August!
When we asked Leah what kind of event she would like to have, she requested something very suited to her likes and personality. Leah has three big hobbies, riding horses, baking goodies, and reading books. We definitely can not host a horse show here at the clinic, so books and baked goods it is! “Leah’s Book Fair and Cookie Walk” is in the works. We will share more details with you all as the plans unfold. However, if anyone is interested in donating used books for the sale, or if you are an artist, craftsman, or have a business who would like to donate something to the event's raffle table. We will gladly start accepting those items now.
We truly appreciate any and all support you might show Leah, with the raffle or the book fair!
Esther, the pug puppy had her first appointment today! Welcome to BVH Esther.

Lyric, our foster cat from Harvest Hills Animal Shelter, loves to be brushed! Here she is hanging out with our CSR, Danica’s, daughter. She’s a sweetheart and still slowly losing weight!
Lisa says be careful out there, come in before we close at 1:00. We have fixed the icy ramp! ❄️❄️❄️
Most of you have heard Dr Wheeler talk about his two labs. Well here they are, meet Tuck and Tank! They stayed with us for the holiday and they love this purple ball with the handles!
Lenny feels like there is nothing more terrible in the world then having his nails trimmed. He actually needs to be fully sedated to have them done. His owner recently invested in the scratch board. A sandpaper covered box that you hide treats in and the dog digs open the door to get the treat, hence filing his nails down on the sandpaper in the process. This is doing a great job slowing down the growth of Lenny’s nails and will spread out the need for visits in to the clinic. We thought we would share this video from his owners in case a scratch board may seem like a good option for anyone else who’s dogs really hate their nails trimmed.
A fun update for you all! Miss Honey, our makeover kitty is 17.1 pounds today. That is 1 and 1/2 pounds down from her starting weight about 2 months ago. As you can see she, still is not taking her workout routine seriously but we definitely have forward progress.
