We would like to ask everyone to please forgive our mess at the office for the next little bit. We are undergoing a remodel in preparation for our wonderful new veterinarian Dr. Kirsten Garoutte who will be arriving in June!
Can anyone guess what we are looking at through the microscope? There’s an additional video in the comments!
This is a blood smear made from an 8-year-old dog that was rescued from a shelter. In the video, you will see something moving... that something is called microfilaria, which is the offspring of an adult female heartworm! Heartworms are transmitted via mosquito bites and can cause serious health problems! It is so very important to have your pup on heartworm prevention year-round, especially in Oklahoma.
