We have these 2 in for training that are both looking for new homes. Full siblings by sired by Ain't Seen Nothin Yet out of JA Prissy Reed. Their full sister JA Aint Seen Prissy Yet ( who was also started here ) has recently won the 2nd Annual High Rollin on the Ranch Slot and High Stakes Barrel Race and has various 1D placings.

They're both finishing up 60 days with us this month and will be ready to go on to a performance home.

No amount of physical manipulation can make up for a poor foundation ❌

When it comes to training, foundation is everything.

I’ve seen it time and again—owners send horses to trainers and expect them to become proficient in a discipline within 60-90 days without having a good foundation to start with.

The truth is, your trainer will probably need at least that long, if not longer, to correct the bad habits that horse arrived with and put some foundational elements in place so that they can progress that horse through its training.

When we skip the critical steps of developing trust, communication, and understanding with these horses during the early formative periods of their lives, we are costing ourselves significant time, effort, and investment down the road.

If we don't take the time to handle these horses correctly at a young age, we are putting ourselves (and our trainers) in the position to rely on physical manipulation later ― and, that simply doesn't work.

Do yourself, and your trainers, a favor and make the time to build a relationship with your c**ts. Even a few minutes a day can drastically improve your starting point and set them up for long-term success.

Skipping steps and rushing the process can be very detrimental to our horses. It’s not a race to see who can get one trained the fastest.

Train for the horse not for the video.

Be present through the process, realizing where your horse is at so that you can be realistic with your expectations.

This doesn’t mean every day should be simple. Progress is made through challenges. We should be challenging ourselves and our horses past our comfort zone at times. We need to work through the challenge and hold our horses accountable before we move onto something else.

Learn to love the whole process, not just the win!

Be patient.
Be present.
Be persistent.

Summer is coming ☀️

Help your horse beat the summer heat with these three hydration tips:

1️⃣ Provide access to white salt (loose is best) for extra sodium. The average horse should be consuming 2 tablespoons of salt per day! Remember: horses may struggle to get enough salt from blocks, as they do not have rough tongues like cattle.

2️⃣ Supplement with an electrolyte when necessary. ( We recommend Bluebonnet Turbo Mag BCAA )

3️⃣ Ensure they have cool, fresh water at all times. Horses average 5-7 gallons of water per day, and can drink up to 4x that amount when temps spike!

We have some friends with 2 little cowboys that are in search of a Unicorn 🦄 They are looking for something middle aged that has been there and done that both on the ranch, and at play days. Something that is as safe in the branding pen as it is in the arena. If you have something that fits the bill, or know of one, please send us info. This will be an excellent home!

Before buying a commercial supplement for your horse, do a little research. Ask yourself:
☝️What does this supplement really provide?
☝️Is there a bona fide need for this by the horse?
☝️Does the ingredient list match the advertising claims?
☝️Do I know what’s actually in there and WHY?
☝️ Is there SOUND science behind it, not just a lot of hype?
☝️Am I selecting by name only (or because so and so Feeds it)?
“The Horse Nutrition Handbook” Melyni Worth, PhD
A few to add:
👉 Is there overlap in nutrients with my current supplements and/or feed?
👉What is guaranteed on the label? (Guaranteed levels vs being in the ingredient list are two very different things)
👉 Is the product manufactured in a horse safe facility?

Have you ever worked for someone who constantly criticized you?

You might have done hundreds of things right in a day, but you never seemed to receive any praise for those things. You only heard about it when you did something wrong.

At the end of the day, you left work feeling defeated and unappreciated.

Now, think about your horses…

This is exactly how they feel when all you do is micromanage their every move.

When a horse is young and learning new skills, we are often quick to reward even the smallest effort in the right direction.

But, as a horse gets further along in its training and our expectations get higher, we often forget to reward them for doing the small things correctly.

We begin to nitpick their behavior and overlook the skills they have mastered.

We rush through the things that they do well so that we can spend more time on the things that they struggle with.

We think that, by focusing on their weaknesses, we will progress them through their training faster.

But, that’s not how it works…

If all we ever do is work on our horses’ weaknesses, they forget what it feels like to have strengths.

They start to feel like their efforts are unappreciated and unrewarded.

And, after a while, they lose their willingness to try.

Horses need positive affirmation. They need to know that their efforts are valued.

Don’t forget to remind your horses that they are doing a good job.

5 Things Your Horse Will Always Remember!

Horses have an exceptional level of awareness, meaning that they can understand situations much more deeply than other animals. They are so attentive that they can pick on other people's
emotions through body language, voice, or just the general vibe you give off. This type of awareness can lead to much more intense experiences for horses. Here are some experiences your horse will remember forever!

1. Places
Horses have quasi photographic memory.
meaning that they can remember places very clearly. It can be positive or negative, depending on the experience they had in a particular place. Imagine your horse witnessed a very traumatic event. Most likely he will never forget the place
or event and move away from that area. If your horse seems hesitating to go somewhere, listen to him, comfort him and trust him, he knows what he's doing!

2. People
As horses have an almost photographic
memory, it's no surprise that they remember people by their faces. Show them the picture of someone they know and they will probably react. Horses can even recognize people after years of being apart! But their memory goes far
beyond our general appearance. Horses can read our facial expressions and remember them for later, too.

As part of the study, horses were shown
pictures of people with happy or sad
expressions. After meeting these people in person (with neutral expressions), the horses reacted based on the original expression they had memorized in the photos. if you meet a horse for the first time, then you have to make a very good impression on him!

3. Emotions
Besides places and people, horses have an innate ability to recognize human emotions. Horses have a tendency to perceive body language, even the most subtle, which helps them determine a person's feelings. If we are feeling stressed, sad or angry, our physical
appearance tends to reflect this. Same goes when we feel happy or excited! Horses don't just read emotions, they also remember a person based on the last emotion they felt from their last interaction. This is a useful strategy for
horses to avoid any possible aggressive
encounters.

4. The other horses
Humans aren't the only ones who can leave an indelible imprint on a horsel Horses can remember and recognize other horses from their social network. Whether it takes a few years or
decades, one horse will never forget its
relationship with another. This doesn't mean as much they will pair up with each other if they ever get together. One horse will only react to another if the bond they had was particularly strong. If he knows a horse from a previous encounter, he may treat it differently than others.

Other important bonds between horses, like the one that unites a mare and her foal, are known to last a lifetime. As horses also remember smells, this can help a mare recognize her baby, even years after separation.

5. The words
Horses are able to understand words much deeper than we thought, but not in the traditional sense we give words. They
understand the words by tone, height and length of the voice. Words with fewer syllables tend to stick better to horses. They can tell when someone is insulting them and when someone is complimenting them. Don't underestimate
their intelligence, because there's a good chance they're listening very attentively to every word you utter.

Horses are incredibly gifted animals, and should be treated as as such! Having an idea of the memories horses hold with them forever will allow you to understand and communicate with them even more deeply. Whatever the experience, good or bad, you can be sure your horse has felt it fully. Do your best to give them a good memory, and they will surely do the same.

🌟 Beavis- 2017 gray gelding son of CS Flashlight 🔦
He's done everything on the ranch, strong from the horn, has a great handle, and is ready to go to the arena. He should make an outstanding barrel, breakaway, head / heel, or steer wrestling horse.
🌟 Peso- 2013 grulla gelding. He's the kind everyone in the family can ride and solid on the ranch. He's started heading as well.

These are very nice horses, safe, sane, and priced accordingly. Please message us or call 605-375-3881 for more information. Thanks!

Some horses are naturally talented athletes and they tend to make training a little easier and quicker.

Some horses need to be developed.

Some need to be taught how to carry themselves and how to use themselves in order to be efficient.

Some can be trained in a few months and some take years.

Some of the horses just need age and maturity to be physically or mentally ready to compete.

In other words, horses are just like people—

Some have anxiety.
Some are never consistent.
Some are always goofing off.
Some horses are all business and have a lot of try and some just can’t handle pressure.

But in the end—
Great horses make great trainers giving great trainers the ability to make good horses into great ones.
