Chattanooga Choo Choo (Noogie!) on the lunge line....in the rain.
Choo working in the long lines, after too long of hiatus due to my wrist injury.
Short video of the Merry Go Lightly critters at the inspection today.
Chinacat Sunflower practicing for the inspection on Sunday....
Belle schooling today...working on the "missing" gait (which is w-a-l-k). She is getting better about walking but she is SO happy when I tell her it is time to trot.
Belle...proving once again that she loves being a driving pony. She took one look at the cones and man-o-man did she have a lot of go!
Chattanooga Choo Choo (aka Noogie) showing off a bit!
Choo Choo Ch'Boogie in harness, dragging chains. I love how "not worried" she is about the jingling around her feet. And even when she was worried about things inside the barn door (Vanessa had some tack in a different place), she held it together and eventually walked on in. Yes, I AM pleased with her.
Several caveats on this video: 1) Choo is young and is not yet strong enough to be steady in the contact; 2) trotting up the centerline with a youngster is HARD - yes, she is wobbly but she's trying to stay straight between my hands; 3) our goals are simple right now - build strength, accept the bit (and we do have moments of chewing!) and listen to instruction for walk, trot, canter, whoa, reverse. No, she is not finished...she really is just starting so it doesn't look perfect. That said, I couldn't be any more pleased with her efforts. And...no stifle locking.
Schooling with Pippin
Schooling with Pippin today...lots of work on transitions. After arena work, we went on the trails. What Pip lacks in size, he makes up for in willingness.
Chloe...trying new things
Chloe schooling today...I'm asking her to do some yielding to help her develop her hindquarters. Yes...many things to improve on, but she's trying hard and is moving off as I am asking her. I certainly got my workout trotting with her!!!
Pippin -- schooling 6/4/2011
Pippin today -- using the collar more effectively and with more zip (as he gains in condition). This was about 30 minutes into the hour drive.
Pippin...little fellow/big heart!
Pippin schooling today. He's learning to use his neck collar and he improves each drive. Had the heart rate monitor on him & he wasn't working very hard (which means more challenges in the future!). Video shows the shafts "floating" in the carriers which means that there is little/no weight on the pony's back.
Pip-pip-hooray! Pippin is getting stronger each time out. He's still not really pushing into the collar the way that I want him to through the corners, but it will come. He is a fun little feller!
Keely came & worked with Scooter. One lesson is asking him to walk through cones. It's a test to see if he truly understands "walk on". The verdict? Oh yeah. He knows. But has his own take on the solution. I love this pony's resourcefulness!
First hitching for the year with Pippin. He's out of shape, but always willing to give it his best. And, yes, it IS a terrible half-completed clip job on the little fellow. Next time, heart rate monitor goes on and I'll start his conditioning program!
Scooter - April 13, 2011
Working with Scooter on 1) coming more forward into the contact (taking up the slack in the lines; 2) straightening (staying with my hands). Sure, he's green but he's giving it one heck of a good effort. Gotta love this pony!
Scooter -- wearing new harness saddle today
After a few days off, Scooter went back to work like we hadn't missed a day. He wore his new harness saddle (rather than the surcingle) which has the lines higher. His trot work is improving -- still lots of work to be done but he is most certainly willing. Such a nice pony!
Scooter dragged the tire for the first time today. No drama, no problem. We did a couple of laps of the driveway with just the singletree without incident. Added the tire and off we went. This is one very special pony.
