Whew it's hot out there! Perfect day to check the hives. My little hive is just doing it's own thing. Not even filled up the brood box yet. Middle one is doing well. Working on filling it's super, probably will need to add one next week (fingers crossed) but my big hive! Wholly cow they are pumping put some bees!! I hope that means honey production will sky rocket! One super about 90% full and starting on their second but I added a third today just to give them more room! Time will tell if that was a good idea or not. 😏

Well let the entertainment keep going! Another swarm decided to take flight on Sunday. I only have 2 hives so I had to get in touch with my mentor who is letting me borrow a set up for a few weeks, thank goodness for supportive people! Unfortunately we are now under a wind advisory and thunderstorms are on their way so I had to improvise and I am transferring them to their new home under cover and just move the whole set up to the other hives shortly.

Good morning on the mini homestead! Eating breakfast and watched a huge limb fall onto the coop🤦‍♀️. Glad it didn't get on the run, no way that would have made it. Upon inspection of the coop once the limb was removed found a hidden pile of eggs in the far back corner. What a morning 😅.

Well there was still a good bit of activity at the new hive after school. I don't want to pester them while they settle. I will keep checking on their food but otherwise won't check on them until next week. Keep your fingers crossed!

Bees are on to the next stage of their mite treatment. Trying a new method this spring that is suppose to wipe out mites ALMOST 100% and it is safe to use during the honey flow. The girls already have 4 frames full of honey so hopefully this year is going to be great!

The girls are on house arrest for the foreseeable future. Saw an owl yesterday and the spring hawks are back. I have one missing for 3 days now, though I keep hoping she is holed up somewhere out of the rain. They are NOT happy! Bees are doing their best. Between being super cold then warm but raining I am keeping their feeder full.

Decided to go ahead and tie the hive down just in case. Suppose to have a few bad storms coming in. Enough to close schools tomorrow. This isn't a 100% guarantee that it won't fall over but hopefully it keeps it from opening if it does. Keep your fingers crossed.

Happiest of New Years my friends!! We are off to the races this year on our tiny "homestead". I have hopes of trying a small garden this year and some meat chickens. But on the honey note, with the loss of my hive last year I will be purchasing another colony around April. My honey hobby is $65 away from purchasing its own colony which is a HUGE goal of mine. I still have jars or honey, bees wax candles and a few water bottles if anyone would like to help me reach that goal. Thank you all for staying on for the ride!🥰

Did something fun today! Rainy days mean cleaning... OR making beeswax candles! No added fragrance, just beeswax with a hint of coconut oil all with a wood wick for a fun crackling! Whatcha think?!

Well it's a super mini hive now. I found a couple more larva today so I'll be checking it daily for a bit. Sort of nervous about putting the old feeder on so I'm going to paint my new one and see my options for salvaging the old one. I didn't see the queen today but I didn't want to pester them too much. They keep coming back so I hope that means she's in there somewhere. If you'd like to help recoup from this disaster I still have some water bottles available. Just let me know.

Well my half blind hen thought she was gonna brave the night free range. Girl was hunkered down in her dust bath ready to go. Lucky I'm paranoid and found her. She will be safe another night whether she likes it or not! Lol

The ladies are getting busy! Did a quick peek today and took the feeder off to wash it. Hopefully tomorrow will be nice enough to do a good hive inspection!

Well everyone I am officially out of honey!😱😱😱 The page has been a little slow this winter because well... the bees are slow! Lol. February is the hardest month for bees in our area as it's JUST before our nectar flow begins and their stores are very low! My girls are being treated to sugar water to help but even that could be tricky! My fingers are crossed that these flowers start blooming soon!
