Happy August! August is considered National Immunization Awareness Month! There are a lot of scary diseases and viruses that we can prevent in our animals just with a simple vaccine. This month we have focused on educating you on the vaccines we offer and what we use them for.

Today is the last day of August and our last educational post of the month. But, the last thing we will talk about is not actually a vaccine. It's an injectable we love around here that prevents something really scary for our dog friends. ProHeart 12 for heartworm prevention!

Just one dose of ProHeart 12 provides protection for your dog all year long. It can be tough to remember monthly medications for your dog, and heartworm disease is a year-round threat. It is also the only FDA-approved product that prevents heartworm disease in dogs for 1 full year with just 1 shot given by your veterinarian.
Want to learn more about how they get heartworms and Proheart 12? Use the link to learn more before your next appointment!

With all the vaccines and prevention you've learned about this month, we hope you have learned more about why we do what we do and we've helped your pet live a long, happy life with you! Feel free to give a call with any questions!

Just one dose of ProHeart 12 provides protection for your dog all year long. Ask your vet about the ONE.

It's National Immunization Awareness Month! This week we'll focus on the vaccines we recommend for boarding, grooming and daycare for dogs!

Bordetella and Influenza are the ones most of those facilities require. Bordetella is given orally once a year to help protect against the kennel cough virus. Influenza is given once a year under the skin and is requires a booster 3-4 weeks later. It's a lot like getting your yearly flu vaccine!

Is your dog not around a lot of other strange dogs at those facilities or dog parks? Great! You don't need them then. Just walking through the neighborhood daily also doesn't require them. 😁

Planning a vacation and think you'll need these vaccines? Download the PetDesk app to request an appointment today! https://petdesk.com/download-app-for-pet-health/

August is considered National Immunization Awareness Month! There are a lot of scary diseases and viruses that we can prevent in our animals just with a simple vaccine. This month we will focus on educating you about the vaccines we offer and what we use them for!

Today is the FVRCP and FELV vaccine for cats. We carry Elanco's TruFel HC2P and FELV vaccine. This product has been shown to be effective for the vaccination of healthy cats 8 weeks of age or older against feline leukemia, rhinotracheitis, calici and panleukopenia viruses. The FELV combo vaccine is recommended only for cats that will be indoor/outdoor or interacting with outdoor cats. The HC2P or (FVRCP in your reminders) is recommended for all cats.

This vaccine is for cats that are at least eight weeks old. We recommend giving booster shots every 3-4 weeks until the kitten is 16 weeks old (or 4 months). Most importantly, we want to see 2 vaccines after 12 weeks old. Adults will receive this vaccine annually with a single dose.

Happy August! August is considered National Immunization Awareness Month! There are a lot of scary diseases and viruses that we can prevent in our animals just with a simple vaccine. This month we will focus on educating you on the vaccines we offer and what we use them for!

Today is the rabies vaccine. Illinois state law requires all animals be up to date on their rabies vaccines and have a tag for their county which we sell for Clinton and Marion county. Otherwise, you can get one from your county's animal control facility. It is the only vaccine required by law.

At CCAH, we offer a 1-year and a 3-year vaccine. What makes the 1-year and 3-year vaccine different is the number of years the vaccine is considered protective according to the license obtained by the company. The 3-year is not considered more potent but does allow us to vaccinate your animal less, so we love it! We always start off with the 1 year vaccine for puppies and unknown vaccine status dogs, but after that we encourage the 3 year.

Need to schedule for your animal to receive a vaccine? Download the PetDesk app to request an appointment anytime and view your animals current vaccination status!
