In December of 2002 the Drake family purchased our first Clydesdale. Since that time we have had the good fortune of owning and breeding some great horses.

Our foundation stock has done well in the show ring and has excelled in the breeding barn. To date we have bred the 2011 Top Selling Gelding, won numerous Grand Champion honors and All-American nominations. Our horses possess the genetics of horses like Inspetor Floss, Hillmore Anna May, Greendykes Lucky Shot, Ayton Perfection, SBH Phoenix, Millisle Explorer, Ellengowan Sensational Rheta, Millisle

Perfection, Greendykes Reflexion, Maplewood Levi, Doura Sensation, Jones Way Supreme Selector, and Greendykes Sherman. It is our goal to breed Clydesdales that exhibit superior conformation and movement as well as the classic Clydesdale disposition. We currently have young stock for sale with more foals arriving early in 2012. In addition to Clydesdales we have begun providing a full line of horse feeds and supplements. A number of horse people expressed a great deal of dissatisfaction with the brands and quality of feed offered locally. As a result we have been providing premium feed from Progressive Nutrition to east central Illinois for 3 years. A number of other equine health products are also available including GLC joint supplements. Feed products for other species are also available by request. ⬛️⬜️🟥 Drakes Oakley: A legitimate contender for the upcoming World Clydesdale Show!
This 2yo mare has a lot of substance, tremendous hoof heads, good hair and joints. She is built to wear harness because she is bred to hitch. Oakley is one of the rare mares that has the quality to get it done in the halter ring and the motion to do the same hitching. Beyond that she comes from a prolific mare line with strong maternal qualities.

We field a lot of questions regarding what it takes to get a Clydesdale ready for the show ring. In reality preparation starts months in advance. We rarely wash feather, but instead apply a combination of oil and sulfur flour to the hair. Their body gets brushed and vacuumed daily in the weeks leading up to a show. Then the evening before a show we wash horses. This includes soap to remove the oil, then a whitening shampoo, followed by conditioner. After washing the legs are dried with a fine wood powder. By the next morning, like magic, the legs are dry, and the feather is white. Before going to the ring, everyone is groomed and vacuumed. The mane is rolled and tails are tied, which altogether takes 15-30min per horse. Getting horses to the ring takes a team effort and we couldn’t do what we do without a great team at home, in the barn, outside the arena and in the ring.

Wrapping up another successful halter show today at the Illinois Stare Fair! Every year we are reminded how fortunate our family is to have good horses, good friends and a chance to have fun and make memories along the way!

Meric will be the last of 3 mares to foal for us this season. She will be a first time mom and comes from a vigorous mare line. Even in late gestation, she moves like a dream and has massive hoof heads and clean legs!
