Today we said goodbye to the great WC Heyday Molly Stark. Bred by Heyday Farm, Misty lived at Cedar Spring for 23 years. She was an undisputed show horse, a brood mare, an academy horse, and a beloved companion for the Quinn and Sogoloff families. Fly free Misty. ❤️❤️

As breeders and trainers, whenever we part with an animal there is always a little empty nest syndrome that we face. But then this happens. Rachel Miller meets Bailando at Brian Hadley Stables, his new home in Weathersfield, Texas. Best of luck Rachel, we know Bailando is in good hands.

Burlington Equine Veterinary Services

Exciting News!

It’s been a long stretch since the last posting and, as often happens, we’ve been so busy through the spring, summer and fall months it’s difficult to carve out enough time to keep the Facebook site current. Hopefully I can stay on top of it for a while, but first I want to update everyone on an exciting new development in our area:

Equine Rehab Facility to open in Charlotte, VT

Cedar Spring Farm, a very successful Morgan training and show facility, is starting a rehab center for horses. The farm has been managed and run by the Sogoloffs since 1976. Originally the farm was in Essex Junction then in 2005 it was relocated to Charlotte. http://www.cedarspringfarm.net/ Bonnie Sogoloff, a nationally recognized trainer and breeder of Morgan horses, along with her husband Hayes and daughters Keely and Wendy, both well respected trainers and competitors with show horses, have managed CSF for many years with a very active training program that included showing horses throughout the northeast and Oklahoma. Now in an effort to fulfill a need for a rehab facility they will make a transition that I suspect will be welcome for many of my clients.

While rehab has been discussed for a while and recognized as needed for the successful management of horses post injury, post surgery and as a way to successfully return a horse to a riding program it’s finally going to happen. In the past I have worked with several facilities located in New York, New Hampshire and southern Vermont. There are definite benefits working on the rehab of horses and the proximity of this one to many of my clients throughout Vermont, northeastern NY and western NH will be be a welcome addition. Much of my work at Burlington Equine has gone towards the diagnosis of sports related issues and choosing therapies that could be medical or surgical, but the rehab care has not always been realized as much as I would like. Trying to bring a horse back post injury or post surgery can be difficult medically and handling some of these horses in a consistent, safe manner can be challenging. While we all know of the benefits of Physical Therapy (PT) on the human side there’s been a void in this area that will finally be filled.

For those of you not familiar with what a rehab facility can offer let me give examples as to how they’ve successfully helped horses in the past, and what we expect to accomplish through this facility at Cedar Spring. Lameness related injuries can take many forms, and treatments can be varied, but we know that early intervention, treatment and management shortens the interval of layup and hopefully ensures that the best outcome possible will be realized. Treating soft tissue injuries - tendons, ligaments, joints and/or muscle - as well as bone related issues such as bone and joints can sideline a horse for various reasons and take time to resolve. These are all things we see at Burlington Equine on a daily basis as well as the horses that are recovering post surgery.

Services to be offered:

1. Proper wound care including post surgery sites with application of medications and bandaging plus administration of medications.
2. External therapies including laser therapy, microcurrent or Electric Field Therapies and ultrasound treatments. A Game Ready system that employs a water cooled, compressive wrap will also be utilized for healing soft tissue and joint related injuries http://www.gamereadyequine.com/ Burlington Equine would be responsible for Shockwave Therapy.
3. Heat therapy with a solarium. This type of therapy utilizes red lamps that emit deep penetrating Infrared rays, particularly beneficial in back therapies and body work.
4. PT work using manipulative therapy - massage and range of motion exercises. Burlington Equine would offer chiropractic work, acupuncture and mesotherapy.
5. Shoeing services offered by a farrier that can work with me on corrective farriery and/or application of shoes that will help manage the healing of a region.
6. Controlled exercise programs that will keep a horse moving even if requiring stall rest. A treadmill will be used when appropriate to allow walking on a flat surface as well as on an elevated one. For those not ready for a treadmill, there’s a long blacktop aisle available for handwalks, a large indoor ring also that can be used for handwalking and trotting. Horse can be long lined if needed as well as worked in a Pessoa system or an Equiband System

Potential stays could be short or extended depending on the condition and services needed. My practice will work closely with this rehab facility and will be intimately involved with care and management of your horse. Other advantages of working with Cedar Spring and their staff, that I have not discussed, are their excellent horsemanship and handling skills that I suspect will be advantageous to many of you that have attempted to manage a horse on layup in a controlled fashion or to ask your boarding stable to do the same.

Please feel free to contact me or Bonnie Sogoloff if there are any questions. Attached are some pictures of what some of these services may look like. We are excited about this project and look forward to working with this facility that will undoubtedly provide much needed services.

We just concluded an epic camp. The campers put on a play in three acts on horseback. We practiced all week and the result was top notch. More importantly, the kids had a blast and came away with camaraderie, new skills, and a whole lot of confidence. So much fun!! (But exhausting to all adults involved 😂). Great job kiddos!

Why Saddle Seat Riders Have Such Good Balance

But is this adaptability real or simply imagined? While an adaptable rider can, of course, come from any background, it s...

ForeFront Equine Corporate

We are proud to feature our loyal ForeFront Equine Corporate customer, Cedar Spring Farm! CSF is a training facility as well as a rehab facility, which has experienced the benefits of ForeFront products in numerous horses with varying needs. We had the opportunity to chat with Bonnie Sogoloff about her facility as well as why she says, "I really don't know what I would do without ForeFront Equine."

Q) What is your experience with the ForeFront and why would you recommend ForeFront products?
A) I have been very impressed with ForeFront Equine products. In the sea of horse supplements, ForeFront stands out. The products are well researched, with the ingredients being very high quality and safe. We have been using ForeFront since its inception and have found its benefits outstanding. I can’t say enough about this cutting edge company and recommend it to anyone looking to get the best from a horse.

Q) Why you love the ForeFront products? Which is your favorite product and why?
A) I really like the ease of administration of ForeFront products. The color coded packets are handy to feed and to bring to competitions. They are palatable to the horse and very beneficial. We’ve used all the different products as needed and they really get the job done. The AllStar supplement is all-inclusive for the well being of the horse. It saves feeding multiple supplements which makes it a value product. We also love ForeRunner paste and ForeCalm for competitions and show our horses using them. ForeJoint is perfect for geriatric horses and athletes in general. All the different products are useful depending on the animal's individual needs.

Q) How do you use ForeFront in your training barn as well as your rehab facility?
A) ForeFront plays a large part in our rehab facility. Horses on layup need extra attention to detail so we rely on ForeFront to keep our rehabs happy and focused on recovery. AllStar, ForeDigest, and ForeRunner are mainstays as well as ForeCalm. Our show horses are already benefiting as well. I really don’t know what I would do without ForeFront!

Q) Tell us more about your rehab facility!
A) Cedar Spring Farm Rehab has partnered with Burlington Equine Veterinary Services and Dr. Randy Frantz to provide the best recovery care for injured equines. We have an excellent track record and have sent all our rehabs home sound and back to work. Between Cedar Spring Farm and Burlington Equine Veterinary Services, there is a vast array of cutting edge modalities available to meet any eventuality. Our websites and pages have all the details!
www.cedarspringfarm.com
www.bevet.com
Cedar Spring Farm is always open to visitors. We love to show off our facility and explain our services. I am also happy to discuss the various ForeFront applications we have used.
