We work on preparing horses for real world experiences as well as developing a horse that is safe and enjoyable to be around. We gear our training program to set a solid foundation that allows the horse to enter into any chosen discipline. Through many years of hands on experience, an Associates of Science: Horse Management Degree, as well as continued equine education, Longevity Equine, LLC is an

excellent choice for yourself and your equine partner. BIOGRAPHY:

Not being raised in the equine world, early on in my childhood I could only obsess over my plastic horses and a Black Beauty Disney movie. I was blessed to have a supportive, single working mother, that even though finances were not there to fund horse ownership, she made it possible for me to get my horse fix. Taking me to riding lessons and any horse related event within arms reach, laid the foundation for my horse driven future. Graduating from Shelton High School as an Honor Roll student in 2007, I moved from Western Washington to Albany, Oregon to further my equine passion. I attended Linn-Benton Community College achieving an Associates of Science degree in Horse Management with Honors. I worked part time at the college's barn and got an enormous amount of hands on experience. At 19 years old, I started my first two colts undersaddle and also was participating in the college's Intercollegiate Horse Show Team. After graduating from LBCC in 2009, I moved back to Washington, got married and worked at a local Credit Union for several years. In-between my full time job and marriage, I was starting horses undersaddle on the side as my "hobby". I also got involved with the American Endurance Ride Conference, and began conditioning my personal horse for limited distances rides of 25+ miles. Just a couple years ago, my husband and I moved to Kittitas County where I had been presented with an opportunity to pursue my horse career dream. I continued to work with several more young horses, starting them undersaddle. Since then, I have opened Longevity Equine, LLC, which focuses on Young Horse Education Training, guiding horses through a groundwork program that then ties into saddle training and riding. I only accept 2-3 horses at a time in full training to make sure each horse is not rushed and is allowed the proper time to develop. Discipline is set aside with the goal to develop a horse that is confident, respectful and safe to work around. This, I have found, is the beginning foundation for any horse to be truly successful in his career.

WMA Burning Fire – 14 year old mare – 14.3 – Tevis finisher and FEI competitor – Burning Sand/Wiking
Fire is an incredible mare that is ready to take her rider to a new competitive level! This horse has a proven race record and is capable of 75’s and 100’s. I unfortunately have become too busy with work and its priorities, and it would be a waste for me to keep this fine horse sitting in the pasture. She loves to work and is safe and sane. Walk, trot, canter and gallop her on a loose rein! She is very well behaved, camps great and takes care of herself on the trail well. She is an uncomplicated ride and is a ton of fun! She is fit now and has her next ride coming up this July.

It has been a good start to the endurance season! Both horses have done fantastic this spring, coming back to work after 1 and 2 years off!

Prevost placed 7th in the 30 miler at Battle of the Flatlands ride this April, with a 3:47 finish time. He had great recoveries and looked like he was ready for more! Rode almost the entire ride on a loose rein, it was an absolute joy to have him back into work.

Then come May, 7 must be our lucky number - Fire and I finished 7th in the 50 miler at Don't Fence Me In ride with a finish time of 5:59! She is a little powerhouse that could go all day! Other than having a few 'mare' feelings at the trot out, trying to bite a chunk from my arm, she had an outstanding vet card completion and recovered well!

Also at this ride, I was able to convince my good friend Robin to jockey Prevost on the 50 miler as well! They did fantastic and brought in the tail end (the best end!). Enduring and not giving in to troubles of an upset stomach, Robin saw this ride through and took such good care of Prevost 🥰 I couldn't have asked for a better way for P to get back into 50s!

These rides were also a great test to my own farrier work and experimentation with the Easy Care Versa Grip glue ons. I can say, they stayed put, no issues, and I had a hard time taking the dang things off to reset ! yay!

Not sure what is next, but I am sure if it goes anything like this, it will be fun!

Training has finally begun for this young fellow! This is Slim!

I spent some minimal handling with him last fall and he has had the winter to grow and mature a bit more. He is coming 4, but still looks like he's got plenty of growing room, so I may or may not get him undersaddle this year with that in mind. However, he still needs to learn all the "things" so yesterday we started out with a round pen session and learning what tying is all about on the highline!

Another great set of pictures from today's cavaletti pole session! Wow both riders and horses in this group fantastic, at both ends of the energy scale! Looking forward to our sessions coming up in May, I truly enjoy each and everyone that comes to try out the concept of pole work :) I still have a few spots available, if you're interested!

Here is a great picture today during our cavaletti pole sessions! Thanks Ginni for capturing great moments!

Today I watched two ponies completing the cavaletti clinic; one had energy to spare and the other could have used that extra energy. I share this photo because it demonstrates the benefits of pole work. Laurie was looking for the moments she could offer Maddie, the sensitive pony, some release in the reins- even if just a moment. And we were watching for the head to lower and Maddie to round over her topline. This photo shows both moments. Notice the give in the reins and the stretch neck. Maddy is really benefitting from this work.

So far the first reset of Prevost's Versa shoes is going great! These shoes have been worn in 100% turn out in snow, mud, rocks and temps as low at 10°, as well as seeing some weekly arena work. The shoes are holding solid, with superglue! I am amazed I pulled these shoes after 6 weeks of use, cleaned them up and rest them back on...

Excited to see how they look over the next 3 weeks or so! This is by far the best results I have had with any type of glue on product. Definitely worth a try if you have ever contemplated trying something like this!

I have been trimming my own horses for about 6 years now and have dabbled with various glue on shoes for endurance competition rides throughout the season. Some were successful, some more than others, but nothing I was ever super impressed with. When I saw the Easycare Versa Grips with the finger tabs, I knew this was what I had been longing for! Completely customizable and something I could leave on a full trim cycle!

My first test cycle was a complete success. Prevost had these applied on his fronts with no issues for 6.5 weeks! Prevost has some hoof imbalances that we are working through, due to a large knee laceration he suffered last spring. These shoes were perfect because I was able to shape the shoe for a perfect fit, working with a little flare and size differences between left vs. right feet. WOW. I am super impressed!

They held up to large rock, steep hill climbs, deep mud, water, creek crossings, snow and more rock!

I removed the shoes today and will try for a re-set of the same shoes and see how that goes. I think these shoes will be a game changer! Right now, Fire also has a full set of Versa Grips on, she is currently in week 3.5 of her cycle and they are holding up great and Fire is working wonderful in them!

What a season it has been! I can hardly believe we are looking into November - Time has flown by and so much has happened this year!

I am now well on my way rehabbing in the saddle after my ankle surgery this spring. I will be working hard through the winter with big plans for next season 2023! I have had several wonderful horses and clients help get me thus far - I could not have done this without all of you!

Phoenix went home after a fun ground driving lesson with his owner! He was a joy to work with and really came along well in his ground training while he was here.

I also had the pleasure to work Karma for a lesson - He was great as well and had a good work-out over some cavaletti! Gaited horses can do trot poles, if you would like them to!

I haven't gotten around to many posts lately - Things have been so busy!

Mojo is here for his second month of training and Phoenix is here another week before heading back home. It is so exciting to have full paddocks here, and slowly beginning to utilize what Robert and I have been building the last 5 years. Fully fenced large spacious paddocks with power and water, 2 new shelters with hay storage, a 3+ acre turn out and a working round pen!

There are still plenty of projects left to start and finish, but things are now coming to life! 🤩

What a fantastic group of riders that came and worked over the poles yesterday! The clinic was a big success for lots of horses and riders, much improvement being seen from start to finish. We all stayed cool for the most part with lots of breaks in the shade, cool water and a misting station! I am looking forward to seeing you all again!

Thank you to Ginni and Jim of Elk Haven Equestrian Center, this is not possible without all their hard work to make the facility a wonderful place for a clinic!

I will be posting fall cavaletti clinic dates soon! Stay tuned!

Cavaletti Clinic July 30, 2022!

Clinic day is right around the corner! It is going to be quite warm, so please plan accordingly! I will have a cooler with waters available by the arena. Maybe soaking a bandana around your neck might be nice!

I have the schedule below - currently I am working through my wait list for one cancelation that came in today. If you are interested in attending, please let me know! I may have a spot for you! 360-463-3291 [email protected]

Riders: Please do not mount or enter arena until you have been cleared and checked in. I am missing paperwork from a few of you and need that completed before entering and riding.

Parking will be in the field through the gate on your left as you drive in. In order to make the turn, please drive forward past the gate and circle around the parked horse trailer to your right - circling that will point you in a straight line to enter the field gate. Space is limited with people coming and going between classes, please park considerate!

I am going to work hard at starting classes on time, please be ready! I am very excited to see all of you!

Kali working in the side reins today. We have worked a lot on body suppleness on the ground in just the halter, to prepare for her work in the side reins.

I occasionally will use side reins to help teach a horse how to find balance from the ground. Kali did fantastic with them today and was relaxed and finding the "sweet spot" easily once adjusted correctly for her.

Side reins are a great training tool if used properly. They are not for every situation and they are not for every horse. If you want to learn more about the proper use and benefits to side reins, give me a call to set up some lessons!

A sequence of photos - Press, yield and release. Kali working on softening up her body in our cool down yesterday.

I have only a couple training spaces remaining for this Fall - Specializing in ground training - If you are on the fence about the benefits of groundwork training or unsure if your horse could gain an advantage, please get in touch with me! This is always a pre-requisite for starting undersaddle and any new horse coming into my program here for riding and trail work.

Have you ever wanted to try pole work but never knew where to start? Or do you love riding over poles but don't get time to do all the set up? Come have fun with your horse and meet new riding friends as we introduce our horses to ground poles and cavaletti!

This will be a great way to get your horses into condition and add some variety to regular ring work. We will work on building cadence, softness and strength in our equine partners and have a lot of fun doing so! There will be several different patterns set up to work through, which we will talk, diagnose and explain goals, expectations and progression. These classes are suitable for any level or discipline, but please come prepared to walk, trot and canter your horse in an arena with other horses

04/25/2022

What a great illustration!

If you find you are unable to give your horse enough rein for him to relax and elongate, going back to your basic foundation of give and take with the reins without change of gait is essential. We need to be aware of this and make sure we offer our horses opportunity to carry us and themselves properly.

One great way to encourage this is through pole work! I will be hosting a few clinics this summer, stay tuned! Private lessons will be available as well!
