There is understandably a lot of panic right now surrounding this new atypical canine respiratory disease that has been reported in other states. At this time, the best dog parents can do is beware of the symptoms, limit your pet’s exposure to dogs with unknown health status, make sure your dog is up-to-date on vaccines, and monitor your pet’s health. If your pet does develop a cough or respiratory distress, contact your family veterinarian or local animal ER to determine the best course of action.

Our graphic provides some more insight, but we also encourage you to read this article from Worms & Germs: https://www.wormsandgermsblog.com/2023/11/articles/animals/dogs/a-dog-owners-guide-to-navigating-respiratory-disease-concerns/

If you haven’t heard from the news there is an upper respiratory virus going around. Please reschedule if your dog is experiencing any of the following symptoms;
- Coughing
- Sneezing
- Fever
- Runny nose/eyes
- Lethargy or general feeling of being unwell

Thank you for helping keep my personal dogs and clients safe ❤️

How to know if your dog needs a nail trim;
One thing to watch out for is if long nails are altering the confirmation of your dogs toes, feet, or legs. This can lead to serious injuries and joint problems. In the picture you can see how the long nails were causing the toes to splay outward. The foot was normal after the toe nails were trimmed.
Toe nail health is especially important in older dogs, obese dogs, and dogs with mobility issues.

Reminder:
The 4th of July is right around the corner. It’s the number one day of the year for dogs to go missing. Make sure your dog has a fitted collar with updated tag info. After dark I personally keep my dogs on leash during the holiday to be extra safe.

Getting your dog used to being touched any where and every where makes such a difference in grooming. A lot of dogs I see are not comfortable with many of these areas.

Just a heads up; I did get selected for jury duty the month of March. Unfortunately I will not know until the night before if I have to go to court the next day. I will let everyone know the night before if I’m going to have to reschedule the following day. I will try and get everyone in ASAP.

A have had some new doodle puppies recently that have all been wonderful for their first grooming appointments. There is a lot of things owners can be doing at home to set dogs up for success. Grooming is a learning process and I almost never do haircuts on the first groom. It’s just too many new things for a puppy to handle.
One of the best things you can do at home is to touch your dog with various objects you have sitting on your coffee table, does not need to be grooming tools. Having weird objects touch them will be no big deal in the grooming shop then.

Tis the season for dandruff. Some ways to prevent and soothe dry skin are;

• use a moisturizing conditioner during every bath
• be mindful about using warm water during baths, not hot
• do not use harsh degreasing shampoos or dish soap
• use a moisturizing spray when brushing
• brush more often to distribute the dogs natural oils throughout the coat
• use a humidifier in your home
• remove dead undercoat to allow the son to properly breathe

Hopefully this helps! Only a few more months until Spring!

About Center Stage Dog Grooming

Since I was young I’ve loved animals — both learning about and taking care of them. I have a degree in animal science and have been grooming and training dogs for many years. I pride myself on the high-standard of care and services that I offer. I have a number of clients who have become more like family, and customers who consider me to be an integral member of their family. I hope I get the chance to meet your lovely pet soon.
