👁🐾 It’s World Sight Day — a great reminder to protect the gift of sight for every member of your family, including your pets!

Just like people, dogs and cats can develop eye issues such as cataracts, glaucoma, infections, or injuries. Early detection is key to preserving their vision and comfort.

👀 Watch for these warning signs:
🔹 Cloudiness or redness in the eyes
🔹 Excessive tearing or discharge
🔹 Squinting or pawing at the eyes
🔹 Bumping into furniture or hesitating in dim light

If you notice any of these symptoms, schedule a check-up with your veterinarian. Regular wellness exams help catch eye conditions early — keeping your pet’s eyes clear, healthy, and bright. 💙

⚖️🐾 Today is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day!

Did you know that more than half of pets in the U.S. are considered overweight or obese? Carrying extra weight can put your pet at risk for serious health issues — including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and even a shorter lifespan.

The chart from the Animal Humane Society below can help you visualize where your pet falls on the body condition scale — from too thin to obese.

✅ You should be able to feel (but not see) your pet’s ribs.
✅ They should have a visible waist when viewed from above.
✅ Their belly should tuck up when viewed from the side.

If you’re unsure about your pet’s weight, our veterinary team can help create a plan to get them back on track — from nutrition guidance to safe activity recommendations.

💙 A healthy weight means a happier, longer life for your best friend!

🐶💛 It’s World Smile Day — and what better way to celebrate than by putting a smile on a dog’s face!

Meet Leo, one of GRIN’s most charming pups — and just look at that smile! 😍

Leo has been waiting over 300 days for his forever home, and we know his perfect match is out there. He’s a young, curious, and energetic dog who’s made amazing progress thanks to the care and dedication of his foster and training teams.

Leo would thrive in a home:
✨ Without young kids or cats
✨ With a securely fenced yard
✨ With someone committed to continuing his training and keeping him safe
✨ Bonus: He’d love a canine friend to play with!

October is Adopt-a-Dog Month, so if you’ve been thinking about bringing joy (and smiles!) into your life — consider giving Leo or another dog the happy ending they're been waiting for. 💕

📩 Learn more about adopting Leo through Golden Retrievers In Need (G.R.I.N.) and help us turn his smile into a forever one.

🐾 Furbaby Friday Spotlight: Willow! 🐾

This week we’re featuring Willow, an adorable orange kitten who came in for her last round of vaccines. Did you know? Orange cats are much more commonly male, so it’s extra special to see a little girl like Willow! 🧡

Willow is also blind, but that doesn’t slow her down one bit. At previous visits, her pupil light reflexes weren’t present, but during today’s check, they were noticeable (though a little slow)—a promising sign!

She’s an absolute sweetheart who captured everyone’s hearts with her playful and loving personality. 💕

🐾🔥🐶 Happy National Fire Pup Day! 🔥🐾🐶

Today we celebrate the brave firehouse dogs—past and present—who have been loyal companions to firefighters and symbols of safety in our communities. From the classic Dalmatian riding along on the fire truck 🚒 to therapy dogs providing comfort after emergencies, these pups remind us of the strong bond between dogs and people.

Take a moment to thank your local firefighters for all they do—and give an extra belly rub to the fire pups who stand by their side! ❤️🐾

September is National Pet Health Insurance Month! 🐾

Having insurance for your furry friend means you’re prepared for the unexpected. From accidents to illnesses, it can help ease financial stress and ensure your pet gets the care they deserve. Did you know some companies even offer wellness plans to help with routine visits and preventive care?!

💡 Tip: It’s best to enroll before your pet develops health issues since most plans don’t cover pre-existing conditions.

🐾 World Rabies Day is a great reminder of how important prevention is! Rabies is a deadly disease that affects both animals and people, but the good news is it’s 100% preventable with vaccination.

📊 The CDC estimates that over 59,000 people worldwide die from rabies each year — almost all from contact with unvaccinated animals.

💉 In Ohio, the rabies vaccine is required by law for all dogs and cats. Staying up to date not only protects your pet, but also your family and community.

👉 If your pet is due for their rabies vaccine, give us a call today to schedule!

🐾 Furbaby Friday Spotlight: Shadow! 🐾

This week we’re featuring Shadow, a sweet senior kitty who came in for his wellness exam, vaccines, and senior bloodwork. He was such a cuddle bug and quickly won over our team with his loving personality. 💕

His lab work showed a few values we’ll be keeping an eye on that may point to the very early stages of kidney changes. For now, Shadow is feeling great, and his family will continue to monitor with us to make sure he stays happy and healthy.

Senior pets like Shadow benefit from routine exams and bloodwork—it helps us catch changes early so we can keep them feeling their best for as long as possible. 🐱💙
