As far as jobs go, it's tough to beat being a dairy vet in Wisconsin! However, some days are more...comfortable than others. Snow flurries blowing in while doing a DA surgery...less than fun!

Although the dairy cows occupy most of our time, we do dabble in a little bit of equine work! This is a 17 day pregnancy in a mare. The first pregnant mare of the season!! For those who don't know, it's that black circle toward the end of the video.

We are very pleased to introduce our newest member of the team, Dr. Natalie Schmidt!!

Dr. Natalie graduated from UW Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in 2023. She previously studied Animal Science at UW Madison. She grew up in Wisconsin with time spent in both Beaver Dam and Birchwood, WI. Dr. Natalie loves cows! She grew up around beef cattle and worked on several different farms throughout school. In her free time, she enjoys fishing, hunting, hiking, cooking, sewing, and eating cheese!

When you see her, be sure to give her a warm welcome to the area!

Got a fetal anomaly double whammy tonight!

1-an amorphous globosus...not only a cool anomaly, it's really fun to say!!

2-an atresia ani. Not only missing an exit hole, but also no tail! It had two scrotums to make up for it, I guess...🤷‍♂️

Both came out of the same heifer. Unfortunately, the calf was DOA, but the dam is just fine.

Today's excitement was an equine enucleation!

Yearlings will yearling! This c**t had a traumatic injury to his eye and it needed to be removed to avoid further complications. He's doing well post-op and should make a good recovery.

This makes 4 schistosomus reflexus cases in the the last 12 months!

Dr. Schaefer drew the short straw on this one! The deformed fetus was delivered via c-section. Mom is in the video chewing cud shortly after the procedure!

If you know cattle, you know the word "heifer" is synonymous with "trouble"! This little lady put her head where it didn't belong and managed to get her eyelid caught on something. Rather than gently removing herself from the situation, apparently, her solution was to go into full freak out mode!
