Join us in celebrating Baarlo's birthday next week! You are invited!

Baarlo has been continuing his chemo - a new protocol the last few weeks. The next step is Prednisone and Vincristine next week. His appetite has been a little off this past week - but he was back to eating this morning after his appointment (yay!). His platelet count was down so he didn't get his treatment today, but he still seems to be cancer-free for now which is great and all we can hope for! He also seems to be feeling well generally and is enjoying life. Nicer weather and more walks in the park are a sign of this time of year. We ask for continued prayers and healing thoughts - as his battle continues. And we both thank everyone who has continued to help and support him through this. This picture was taken today after his appointment - where we met Sochi, a beautiful Sheltie, who is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor. Sochi has his own page, too. Our prayers and best wishes go out to Sochi and his family!

This is Baarlo today with me at work - after his treatment at OSU this morning. He loves coming to work with me after his treatments. He doesn't even mind getting his treatments - he's such a happy boy and not much ever seems to bother him. And they are so good with him at OSU - he loves going there to see everyone.

Baarlo is back in total remission thanks to the new chemo medicine that he's getting. He had a treatment again today and is doing well. I hadn't mentioned it on here yet - but the last time we were in we were told that that he was recommended by his doctors for a grant from Blue Buffalo which will help with his bills considerably! I'm absolutely certain that all of your thoughts and prayers on his behalf helped make that happen. I found out just a couple days after that last posting. It is a blessing for which I am immeasurably grateful. I would hate to not be able to give him the best treatments because I can't afford it - and he's been doing so extraordinarily well so far - just over a year now and going strong! He is still doing his therapy visits every week and will be again participating in the OSU Libraries' Pause4Paws during finals week in April - which the students just love.

I haven't done a recent update, but Baarlo is still chugging along and doing quite well. He's still on the two types of chemo every 3rd week and it's keeping him in remission so long as he's on it. They will soon try for expanding to every 4 weeks. We've still been doing the therapy dog visits to the hospice patients each week and may add another couple stops each month since we received another request.

Since the weather was exceptionally nice recently we've taken a few more nice long walks on the weekends when it's light out. I'll see about posting more photos of him soon.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Baarlo - with donations to his GoFundMe account, with prayers, healing thoughts and well wishes. It is keeping him alive and sustaining me as he goes through this. I'm keeping every hope that he stays healthy for many more years with all this help and support. He is SO well loved and I am so grateful for all the wonderful people in our lives.

Baarlo had quite the busy schedule today! First an hour at OSU's Student Academic Services on Lane Ave. to give therapy to the staff there - after the unsettling incident they underwent last week. And then two one-hour sessions at the Thompson Library on campus for Pause4Paws for finals week for the stressed out students. He will be coming back tomorrow and Monday do more Pause4Paws. He's one busy guy! (photo is from his morning session at SAS)

A few things people were heard saying about Baarlo today as he was doing his therapy dog work at Ohio State University....
"He's SO aesthetically pleasing!"
"I hope it's YOUR favorite day, 'cause it's mine!"
"I didn't know a living thing could look like that!"
"Oh my god, this is a picture-perfect dog!"
"My day just got so much better!"
and the one we hear most often.... "he's SOOOOO fluffy!!!"

Help Baarlo the Therapy Dog

Sad news - a setback for now, but still high hopes for Baarlo.

Pam McClung has posted a new update!

Baarlo is a celebrity! He loves his Brilliant K-9 harness - we were just telling another dog mom about them today - when Baarlo was at OSU getting his LAST chemo treatment. They are awesome harnesses and keep him safe when travelling in the car.

Ran into Baarlo The Therapy Dog wearing a BrilliantK9 harness. He looked great!

YAY!!! Celebrating Baarlo's last chemotherapy treatment today! He got a little present with treats and a toy from mom. He will still be going back monthly for check ups to make sure he is staying healthy and in remission - which we hope is for a VERY long time! Everyone at OSU has been wonderful and Baarlo hasn't been upset or sickened by any of his treatments - he's SUCH a trouper! My DEEPEST and heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped with his GoFundMe page and donated -- making all this possible for him - he literally wouldn't be here still otherwise.

Baarlo had his penultimate (next to last) chemo treatment today! He is still in remission and doing very well. I am holding on to every hope that his wonderful progress and great health these last few months are indicative that he will have a long and possibly even permanent remission. He has so much wonderful work to do and so many lives to brighten! Thank you to everyone who has sent healing thoughts and prayers his way!

We just discovered that Lowe's allows dogs so off Baarlo and I went this weekend to explore! He loved it and trotted right along side the cart as I strolled around and ran a few errands. He made several friends... like he always does everywhere he goes!

Baarlo has only 5 more chemo treatments! He's now in every other week mode and his lymphocyte count was down a little last time (two weeks ago) and down even a little more this week – which is great news! He is still in remission and showing absolutely no signs of the cancer still. He has been clear for over two months now. I thank everyone who helped with prayers, kind thoughts and money to assist with his care. He is doing so well and I am so grateful and happy and relieved. He's not gotten sick or had any noticeable side effects from his treatments, other than typically being a bit less active the day of the treatment. He's not had to stop or curtail any of his therapy visits at the nursing homes or at Ohio State. He is such a trooper and always such a happy dog.

Baarlo is still doing fine and participated all week in Pause4Paws at Ohio State University's Thompson and 18th Ave. Libraries. He has a LOT of fans out there! He is still in remission and is only having to go for his chemo treatments every other week now which is great news. He continues to do well and he seems to feel great – and is doing all his normal activities and therapy work.

Baarlo enjoyed his walk and seeing the signs of Spring all around today! Let's hope Spring is here to stay!

03/22/2016

Baarlo update: the oncology vet at OSU confirmed that he is officially, clinically in REMISSION now! He still has weeks and weeks of treatments left in his protocol however - so continued healing thoughts and prayers are welcome, but this is wonderful news. He continues to feel well and has no noticeable negative side effects of his treatments, other than a bit of tiredness the first day of a treatment. Thank you EVERYONE who has been praying and thinking of him - I am SO very grateful. Photo is of him at my aunt's this weekend where we went visiting. He loves to go there.

Wonderful news for Baarlo today – no signs of ANY of the cancer now! His treatments will continue for the full protocol of course - to make sure all cells, even those not visible, will be erradicated. This is the BEST news ever. I've never gotten a better birthday present.

I want to thank everyone who has helped support him and me through this up to now – I couldn't have gotten this far without that support and all the prayers and healing thoughts - especially the donations here that made the treatments possible. So happy that I have this wonderful news to share. (photo was taken this morning on our way to OSU Vet Hospital). He has been feeling fine, active and happy all through this.

The Reiki Center - Animal Services

Baarlo had a Reiki healing treatment this evening at the Reiki Center on 5th Ave. http://www.thereikicenter.net/animal_services.html Reiki focuses on the energy flowing in the body of a person or animal which can get blocked and cause issues. Baarlo responded to it very well and it was just amazing to see him relax and enjoy the treatment. He was very comfortable with Terri right away and responded very well to the energy work. You could tell he enjoyed it and benefited from it. I'm so pleased for him. And she told me some ways that I can help him myself at home.

I found out on Feb. 15 that Baarlo has cancer - lymphoma. We are taking every step necessary to treat it. He is receiving his treatments at The Ohio State University Veterinary Hospital, which is one of the best facilities in the country. His treatments are so far proving to be very effective and his tumors have both disappeared and shrunk considerably, even 4 days after the first treatment! The treatments are quite expensive and Baarlo has a Go Fund Me account to help with his care. If you would like to give to his fund you can find the info on it here: https://www.gofundme.com/helpbaarlo and even if you can't give, please share his page around, that is also a big help. Baarlo is young and strong and we hope to fight this and keep him around and helping people for a very long time.

Baarlo also makes therapy visits to hospice patients in facilities around Columbus - and brings such joy to them.

03/04/2016

Baarlo helps at BuckeyeThon at The Ohio State University each February - BuckeyeThon raises funds for children fighting cancer.

03/04/2016

Baarlo had a great romp in the park in the snow this morning! He LOVES to run in the snow and play! This is his favorite way to start the day!
