Theodore tried helping his dad catch some fish and caught himself instead. He had to have a little help in removing the hook and did so well . He enjoyed the company of Kayla during recovery and the comfort of our couch.

This is a great piece of information from Eastern Maine emergency veterinary clinic.

It's that time of year that we see rain and your pet can be at risk of contracting leptospirosis. Lepto is a bacterial infection that your pet can get when exposed to stagnant water. This can affect pups who live in high rise apartments in New York City as well as dogs running around the woods in Maine. This is because all it takes is a small friend carrying the bacteria, peeing in a planter or near a mud puddle or on a trail that then gets wet with rain.

Drinking the water or licking it off their feet can lead to infection. It usually starts with vomiting/diarrhea, lethargy, and just acting sick. As the disease progresses, the kidneys and liver are affected. It can be fatal if left untreated AND YOU can get it too! This is one of the few diseases that can affect YOU and your PET.

Luckily there is a great vaccine for it. You should consider this part of your CORE vaccines for dogs in Maine. Talk to you regular vet and keep those vaccines updated! It really does keep you OUT of the ER.
