Haven't posted in a while, life has been crazy. A lot has happened since I last posted on the rabbits. I've decided to work with standard rex and silver fox now as I want to work with the fur and create hats, mittens, blankets, and other possible things with them. I'll get a line up of of everyone soon as an introduction but for now here is a litter of pedigree babies. Not sure where the REW came from but everybody is healthy, growing well and adorable!. It might be a slow process but there will be more to come!

Made some deviled quail eggs eggs. Took a little bit but they are tasty and bite size lol.

I found Jewel working on her nest this moring and went out a little bit ago to check on her before work. 9 wiggly kits. 6 broken colored and 3 solid color. Her first litter was 7 kits with 1 broken. Very exciting! Though I think one will have a flair for the dramatics lol. Did not stop screaming.

This little one decided to make a dramatic entrance on day 20. I was about to toss the leftover eggs that didn't hatch when I saw this little guy jump up. He will go in the brooder with his siblings tomorrow. Maybe I'll get another one to hatch?

Finally got my eggs from Myshire Farm. They were delayed longer than I was expecting, but they are here, and the incubator is warming up for them to go in tomorrow. I got these eggs in an auction. 30 mystery eggs. Who knows what we will get!

I put 9 chicks in the brooder today. We will see if any more hatch but for my first time, I'll take a 69% hatch rate. They are so cute and tiny! And there are a couple different color varieties!

We have chicks!!!! I didn't see these eggs pip but they are out and moving. Time to get the brooder going!

The first 2 have started pipping! Hopefully I'll have chicks in the next 24 hours.

It's officially lockdown!! Technically it was yesterday but better late than never. Should be in the next couple days I'll have little chicks popping out. Couldn't candle them since they are celedon eggs but I'm not expecting a great hatch as this is my first time incubating eggs. We will see!

Welcome to Silver Mist Urbanstead! This page is to demonstrate and learn how to grow into a more self sustaining lifestyle. It is my goal to become more self reliant for my food and to break out of societal norms. I am working hard to start my own micro orchard, container garden, and raise my own livestock in town until I can get the property of my dreams to expand my goals. I am just starting this journey and hope to inspire more people to do the same. Whether that's starting your own garden, raising some of your own meat/eggs, or finding some new ways to use the nature around you, come along on this journey with me in urban homesteading.
