I promised y’all updates on the meat bird, and who’d have thought I’d have been this busy to keep you updated.. well better late than never right..? Here we are, going on week 6 and we’re on the home stretch now!
It’s really amazing at how fast these guys grow. Cornish cross have always seemed to have a bad wrap for their look or the claim of being an unhealthy breed; however I have found to really enjoy them. They aren’t the prettiest to look at, but looking at them isn’t the point. They haven’t had any issues this far, we started them off with about 3 weeks of probiotics in their water, and about 5lbs of feed a day for the first week. Today they are drinking about 55 gallons of water in about a week and are eatting 50lbs of food in 4 days.
Is this cost effective? I’m not sure yet, but I will be totaling everything up on butcher day, and we’re all going to see what the difference is. On the natural/healthy aspect of things, I absolutely would do all of this again. Where does your meat come from? 🤔

Our Flemish Giant, Dolly, and her babies got moved to their new outdoor hutch. These hutches will work out better for such a large breed plus a litter. Lots more room!!

With sadness and loss, comes joy and new life!
Unfortunately we lost Lucky and Hope, wile they had a love filled 4 days, our love wasn’t enough to make them survive. Sometimes things just don’t work out as we wish they would.
However, today we welcomed our first litter of Polish! Not only is this our first litter, Polish are an entirely new breed on the homestead! I am so thrilled to have a new opportunity’s in the barn!

Isn’t mean but isn’t puppy dog friendly. He’s a cool guy. NOT AN INDOOR PET, has been outdoors his entire life. Would love to see him go where he has a couple girls. My plans are just taking a small change and I don’t need a boar while that happens.

It’s been a truly eventful 24 hours on the homestead. Yesterday morning I came out to the pig pen to find 4 sweet little piglets. Unfortunately one was already deceased, and another being the runt who passed early this morning. Our survivors seem to be these two. A beautiful black boar and a pretty black gilt.
I don’t think we are quite in the clear yet as far as survival. Mama pig (Petunia) has not been the best first time mama. Unfortunately we are going to have to hand raise these babies, and with that takes a lot of time.
Since they have made it past 24 hours. We have decided to name them Lucky and Hope. Lots of prayers could do these guys a whole lot of good!
I’m not generally one to complain about things, however I’m really tired of hearing “that’s to much, I can get them cheaper” by all means if you want them cheaper, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
I am not here to make money off people, however I take pride in what I do, so entire I am raising quality animals. It takes a lot of time and money to breed, hatch, raise and feed all these animals. I do not raise animals to profit from. I raise animals for my enjoyment and to feed MY family. If free or cheap is what you want, I am not the place to buy from. A $10 chicken is well worth it. It will cost you four or five times that to raise your own. If a $50 rabbit is too much, please go find someone else who doesn’t care about quality, I can guarantee the $20 rabbit you bought is nothing more than a cull.
Please do not reach out if you don’t have the intentions on spending money on quality animals. This goes for me and all of my animals friends who I am sure feel the same way. I will block you and I will black list you.

With our goats kidding in a short 12ish weeks I’d like to give a little info for those who are interested in this year’s kids.
First and foremost we raise Nigerian Dwarfs. We do not sell bottle babies, all kids are dam raised and weaned here before they leave to their new homes.
Our goats come with CD&T vaccinations, and will be dewormed prior to leaving.
Our goats come with a USDA scrapie’s tags that will be placed before leaving. This tag cannot be removed for any reason. It is unlawful to do so.
If at anytime we feel something is off, we will by no means send a kid to its new home until we are 100% sure they are okay.
All male kids are weathered, unless another agreement is made. This must be done before 12 weeks old.
This years kids are NOT registered however we plan to have a registered doe for next years breedings.
And finally, we have a sales policy in place and you will be required to sign that policy, and provide your name, address and phone number. These are records that we must keep!

Bon appétit! Haven’t posted the piggies in a while, the pigs loved the one little patch of grass they had left in their pen. They have done a wonderful job rooting this area up, and I’m very impressed! Now to just clean up and get them moved into their next patch!

Piggies were enjoying their breakfast, and the sunshine yesterday! Love watching their little tails wag when they are happy! Got some rabbits and potentially our goats bread yesterday as well! New Zealand X Harlequin mixes! Ready to go in another 4 weeks, would make great additions (or the start) of a meat rabbit program! Super pretty and starting to become really sweet! Momma is around 11lbs, daddy is right around 9lbs these guys will be big!
Last year our sweet Mable hatched 3 chicks but unfortunately none of them made it. This year I decided not to give her any eggs because of this. After sitting faithfully in a nest for close to 3 weeks with no eggs I decided to give her a chick. (The only chicken chick that hatched from our last batch) She immediately took to baby and has been an awesome mother!! Way to go Mable!
